GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

... perhaps they were worried Sonic had moved into the neighbourhood :p
Only because they'd have to compete with my perma-shine paintwork, 'blingy' wheels and constant fettling! Either that or they were flabberghasted to see 'Sonic' actually out on such a dreich day ...

3rd service and MOT today, all passed which is good news.

Nice little video sent across which i didn't get in the previous 2 visits, should be standard. New owners new policies perhaps.

Can't help but notice him pause on any of the modifications as if to purposefully note, likely for the corporate machine to use rejecting future warranties.

For all you catback enjoyers the tech did let me know he struggled getting a reading during the emissions test, as the AWE touring has drainports in the muffler these were letting air in and throwing the test. He advised me to tape these up in the future which was great of him to let me know, a tech on a bad day and a busy schedule might not think twice, fail and move on.

So it was a pleasant experience, staff changed the keyfob battery, hoovered, not washed. Until I head back, it was parked in way too tight a spot only an experienced owner could bend in ways requiring years of training to get in and out. I knew right away to look and behold.

staff changed the keyfob battery
At my second service the dealership ticked the 'R' on the service sheet to say they had replaced it, but when I checked the keyfob I found the cheap battery inside that I'd put in a few months ago... Took them a week to drop-off a couple of new ones. Assume this is a task the service admin staff were supposed to do.

As I have just had my car serviced and MOT-d, and I am strongly considering a change, and my annual mileage has risen from the 3k PA at the time of purchase to a likely 25k+ PA, and the main dealer experience was a bit of a horrorshow as described above:

I cancelled my service plan. I did this by emailing the EMAC people as set out on their website. I did this on 21 December.

I haven't received any correspondence from them (other than an automated acknowledgement), but checking my bank account this morning revealed a refund of c.£116.

For reference, I had the six-year plan without MOTs at about £32 a month.

Definitely makes sense with adding that sort of mileage to the vehicle,
For comparison my 3year fixed £34plan has now gone up to £55/month!
My struggle at the min is with such low mileage, I get to enjoy it when I get free time but also serves as an emergency fund, I hope I never need to sell it but I need to keep the option open. I can't see many people opting to purchase a low mileage example without the warranty so i'm forced into being robbed by the service department.

That's crazy. Buying services as you go only costs £38/month over two years (i.e. both intermediate and full), even adding MOT it works out cheaper.

3rd service carried out today. Specifically asked for diff oil to be done as well as missed on second service.

Collected car, was told “diff oil isn’t on the invoice, but it definitely has been done this time”.

Asked for something in writing saying it’s been done, as according to the paperwork I now have it hasn’t been done in 3 years.

“Manager is back on Monday who can sort that for you”.

Well, fair play to the dealership. They emailed through the updated invoice this morning without any reminding from me.

Next up is insurance renewal in March. Hopefully moving house in a week or so, and having a garage for the ‘86, will lower the price from the currently eye watering £1,800.

Fitted some new all weather mats. Wouldn't usually have bothered, as I quite like having carpeted ones, but it is nice to have something that can be cleaned more easily, especially in this weather. And thanks to @TR1, I managed to get some lightly used for a good price.

My only gripe is that I wish they had the GR logo (or no logo at all), but hey ho.

The only thing I found with the 3D mats is that they are not quite as robust as I'd like, especially with dirty heeled shoes etc. I added a set of cheap-as-chips generic rubber mats to act as sacrificial inserts, as can be seen from my (2024*) post here.

Another long work trip over the last couple of days. c.400 miles done. I had to get to a site right out in the sticks yesterday morning, and the snow/ice/apparent minus 7 temperature meant that the journey was a tense one on standard tyres.

I parked right in the corner of my hotel car park last night (because door dinkers), and failed to notice how that part of the car park was in a slight dip. It rained very heavily yesterday evening, and then froze overnight. Therefore, I was greeted with my car surrounded by a big pool of water which had then frozen pretty solid so I had to sort of 'skate' to my driver's door (not a dignified sight for a 52 year old man). Upon reaching the door the ice promptly gave way, resulting in my feet being submerged in a good 3-4 inches of freezing water.

So I had wet feet for my c.4 hour drive home.

They feel more robust than the OEM mats, and I haven't really had any wear problems with those, so I hope they'll be okay.

I would have probably laughed until some peepee came out had I been witness to this event ... :giggle:
Thankfully I was wearing trainers rather than my posh business footwear which was in the boot, so I can sort of see the funny side...
