GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Going to be heading over to Caffeine & Machine The Hill Toyota Yard Meet on Tuesday so I thought I'd give the car a spruce up.

Thankfully it was cooler than the 30 degrees on Friday and there were no heavy rain showers like yesterday.

Found a couple more stone chips on the front, annoyingly. Perhaps I should have got some of that four grand cling film stuff some of our comrades advocate, to wrap the cheese-like paint in.

Although, as all cheese enthusiasts know, one shouldn't use cling film for wrapping cheese.

Perhaps I have taken this rather clumsy cheese and film analogy far enough...
I was sort of relieved when I found the first one, it was never going to stay perfect forever, and it now means you can get out and enjoy it more knowing it’s already happened (and think about all the great things you can do with the money you didn’t spend on the cling film)

IMO PPF looks worse than a few stone chips - it doesn’t age especially well, and you can see the edges of it, even when applied professionally (and well).
Having had a red GT86 without PPF to now a red GR86 with it I can say without doubt it was the best decision I've made for this car. I couldn't disagree more, the PPF takes punishment without notice unlike paintwork. You can't see PPF applied unless your face is 6 inches from an edge of a panel.

I think people seem to think that those who've had PPF have confirmation bias because of the expense but it's really not the case. Unless your someone who changes car regularly I would definitely recommend it.

Didn't get PPF because at the time, the car wasn't going to be used for motorway commuting. That's changed now, so I kind of regret not doing it. Oh well.

It's all a matter of personal preference of course - except for the headlights, where PPF is essential to avoid an early insurance claim.

I happy to accept that over the stonechips.
The installer I used gave me a 7 year warranty so if any edges start looking dog eared then he will sort.

Took the bins out. Grabbed a moody evening shot.

Drove to town for a haircut. Paid for 4hrs parking so that I could also have a leisurely Flat White and Pain-au-Raisin at Cafe Nero, because the sun was blazing and it seemed the logical thing to do. [Some hours later] ... Got back to the car and placed my hand on the Billetworkz gearknob to waggle it in Neutral - Mother of God that thing was as hot as the Sun! 🤯

Note to self: Remember to deploy the miniature gear knob Hoodie, that's why you bought it ya donut! 🤦‍♂️

Fitted the Cusco Pedal Extender [from Fensport]

Five minutes with a Dremel [to achieve a brushed finish], twenty minutes of contortions fitting the thing.
Did you manage to fit it with the pedal in-situ?
I took the whole pedal out to do it on the bench, and even then I found it a fiddly bastard job! Can't imagine doing it while in the footwell.

I did mine with the pedal in place, it certainly was a bit tricky. Is it possible to fit it in the wrong position? I thought it might sit a little closer to the brake pedal.

Took an early morning drive over to 'Preserve & Protect' (Johnstone) for an underbody inspection. Only issues was a bit of 'contamination' on the NSR, where rain water had dripped from a rusty washer on the rear brake caliper, but it just required a couple of Dinitrol squirts (FOC, which was nice!).
Guess I'll have to get under the back with a copper brush and some form of Rust Converter before Winter comes; along with tidying up that slapdash caliper paintjob whilst I'm there too, if I can find a kit the right shade of blue.

Well FedEx delivered the goods - rear strut brace (Kansai Service Rear Tower bar) direct from Japan. Weather was good when I got home, so gave the car a quick contact wash and thought i'd have a looked to decipher the instructions (all in Japanese naturally). Weather was still good, so thought I'd have a go at fitting it.
14mm is the only size I didn't have a ratchet spanner for, so the top mount bolts were a pain with the boot trim still there, as I couldn't be arsed to unpop it all, but I managed in about 45 mins.

I think it's fitted correctly - @KobayashiMaru86 has fitted one recently, so wonder if it looks about right!
