GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Need to use mine. Hasn't been out really since the exhaust was done. May do this weekend as the next mountain is just off a main road and it's good roads all the way. Leave at 2am and catch a Sunrise so it's a bit cooler for the dog.

Went to install my new expensive Rays wheel nuts and they don’t fit the Bola wheels as the seat is too wide for the nut recess: 21mm and not 20mm like the old style. They could have included that dimension on the website innit! I'll be sending them back then. Five minutes of initial happiness ruined. FML. 🤦‍♂️

You are a man of less nuts...

Called into supplying dealer to get the brake fluid changed (they ‘forgot’ to do it as part of 2nd annual service a couple of weeks ago) no matter cos they gave the keys of this chappie to amuse myself while they did the work.
2021 / 26k miles circuit pack. Sketchy looking wheels + scorpion exhaust. They ‘ran the numbers’ and said it’d be a straight swap for my 86 (currently on 17k miles)
Actually seems like an ok deal, no??

Did you like it? And did it make you smile more than the 86?

Love the idea of the Yaris but worry it’s a bit one-dimensional compared to an 86?

Drove it. Impromptu spin about as my mate wanted to give his GTi a run to make sure it was OK after some new parts. I definitely need to drive more as if you don't daily you get out of tune so quickly. The traction mod, heat and Goodyears meant for plenty of grip and didn't seem as willing to let go. It's far more planted, even over bumpier roads but rough roads will always be rough. Getting used to the nvh of the diff and clutch over other stuff I'm driving again. Did some local moorland then back to Mumbles for an ice cream. Finding time to drive it is the tricky part but will be making more effort to.

Still looking darned nice with those wheels though @KobayashiMaru86! I also see one of them thar MG4 EV XPower things with AWD and a 3.8s 0-60 time innit? I have to say they look an interesting proposition and fun to drive, but my goodness the residuals forecast is woeful ... 😬

I think you’ve nailed it there, and it was a no for me - the GRY wasn’t as much fun as the 86, so I didn’t pursue a deal any further.
I’m 100% certain that for a lot (most?) of folk the Yaris is the car they’d go for. It’s a really gutsy engine with all the torque and the cornering is 4wd-rally-tastic. It has a slightly menacing presence, which is cool. But from my hour long drive and going by the stuff that I measure cars by, whilst it is seriously accomplished and it is fun, it’s ONLY when you’re pressing on. And even then it’s a sort of ‘how the hell did the car manage to get me round that corner with so little drama’ kind of amusement.
It’s that ‘horse and rider’ thing that Mazda said about the OG mx5. That applies to so few cars - in spades to the 86, but not so much to the Yaris in my view.
And I’ve totally gone off turbo power delivery - N/A all the way. Hate even a smidge of lag

Went for a nice run with the A/C full on and had a nice breakfast.

Then popped into LIDL for some dog food and parked way at the back to avoid the door swinging idiots.

Whilst loading the shopping into the boot, we actually had to step aside and move the trolley as a middle aged man “parked” nearby and walked off to do his shopping with his wife.

Hope he handled the trolley better than the Fiesta - I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t watched it.

I started to get a similar feeling in the FK8 type R I had before the 86. Very fast, and very fun, but a RWD chassis will always give you more options.

Agreed. It's great car but after a test drive I found it's a ten tenths car. Only fun at full send which is risky doing daily and the scenarios where you can are decreasing by the day.
