GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Not so much of a "what I did" as what I've got to do.

Got the 1st year tax renewal email. That year has gone fast.
Snap! Much cheaper than the family run around tax I got in the same envelope £320 😭

At least it's not as bad as the OH BMW as that'll be £570 with it's £390 extra for it being over £40k new :ROFLMAO:
Ouch. Always struck me as an odd way to band tax - not much environmental incentive and with inflation an awful lot of cars now hit the higher band. But I also could just be bitter as the car I had before was only £20 a year...

Fitted the OEM mudflaps.. It’s a bit of a ballache on the ground doing one wheel at a time but it’s done..

I couldn’t get the car high enough on my cheap Halfords Jack to get the drill under but luckily the holes are all in plastic so I just used the chuck and drilled them by hand .. my forearms will be aching later….

I’d forgotten that I was a time served mechanic in another life so it was good to grab some tools and dive in.. I’ve still not done the clutch spring as I’m struggling to see what I’m doing with my varifocals on but I’ll get it done eventually

Nuff said…

Took off most of the protective film 🎉 I was like a kid on Christmas Day! 😂 No idea why they decided to use a different film on the footrest than they used on the pedals but with some sticky stuff remover and some elbow grease its done.

Changed the reverse lights, puddle lights, interior lights, boot light and vanity mirror lights to LED. - thanks to the members who posted the various links. 👍🏼

Fitted the boot strap provided by @PVGR - thank you, does the job perfectly and thankfully managed not to drop the washer!

Changed the audio settings to those suggested by @leosayer - thank you. Will see how I go with these and the standard audio but suspect the focal speakers will be ordered by Christmas ….

Where do I find these interesting sounding audio settings then?

They were from a post I bookmarked, tried to copy link so hope this works…

Went for a morning drive into the Kingdom of Fife before the roads get busy. Bit of frost called for caution but still great fun changing through the gears on the twisty roads. The early morning sun was great, climbing out of the Forth Valley fog that hides the Forth Bridge. Car needs a wash now.

Test drove an M2. Then realised the GR86 is better in pretty much every way that I care about (chassis, slip progressiveness, gearshift, engine response, mechanical interaction). Very surprisingly, it didn't actually feel that much slower either.

I like the idea of the M2 but these things keep getting heavier. It's half a ton on top of the 86. Great for cruising, but sports cars should be light. Not that I could afford an M2

This was an OG 2017 one, so as light as they get. It felt too artificial. This isn't me being defensive of the GR86 - I was fully prepared to switch, but then when I got back into the 86, I realised just how good it was. All I would change would be better engine sound and getting hydraulic steering. They are my two issues with the car.

Agreed on hydraulic steering, but it's the best electric rack I've tried.
