The other security issue with this car is that it allows you to lock up with the boot in the down position, but not closed. Even my old 56 plate Yaris blares out a warning if you attempt this. Both cars allow locking with the windows open. You'd think that these kind of things would be pretty easy to notice and solve before release to the public.
 
I have just sent my e-mail to Toyota UK. I still have the "drive home" insurance email from Toyota Buy Online which states to select "alarm & immobiliser" and have sent them a screenshot of that.
 
Main thing I worry about is the way the insurance questions have been phrased around factory fitted alarm as others have said.
 
Just sent an email myself. As above, just said I have recently found out the car has no alarm and that £500 has been offered to other owners for the mis-selling. Given my order details and included the screenshot of their own drive-away insurance form. Hopefully something will come of it.
 
Can't fathom how toyota could have made such a big boo-boo, forgot to tick box for rear sensors, forgot to add alarm - must have been so busy with the hype of the limited run in the UK. We're not talking about state of the art new self driving tech either, just bog standard parking sensors and alarms.
Hopefully that's all that's missing from the original spec sheet that doesn't affect performance - the LSD limited slip diff is definitely there right - think there is a way to check but didn't think I needed to.:)

Think it was probably cost-cutting. They're in a difficult position now because they've already forked out a few £500 payments and can't complain if others want similar compensation (and 1500 x £500 is £750k!). I also sent off an email over Christmas.
As mentioned in an earlier posting, I would have liked an audible warning when attempting to lock the car with the boot open too.

I suspect they won’t be in quite that deep on it as a number of these cars ended up pre reg, ex demonstrators, or sold by their first owners for various reasons. My gut says if it’s not the first owner trying to claim some form of compensation they’re off the hook and the selling dealer is the one who will have the bunfight if there’s any argument over the car being as described.

Nope...bought mine preregistered from dealer and successfully claimed direct from TUK. Perhaps they allow one claim per VIN.

I'm old enough to remember the promise of an auto-dimming fancy electrochromic interior mirror too.

Had one on my old MX-5 NC and it worked very well indeed in a low car when followed too closely by the small-d*cked in their jacked up SUVs.

Given how flat out inflammatory their responses were to a number of us who emailed prior to the members who got the ombudsman involved I’m pretty surprised by that outcome!

You’ve got me all misty eyed and nostalgic. They really did let the marketing intern or office idiot loose when putting the details up on the website at launch didn’t they.

Entirely possible too. I guess we’ll never know the culprit but I suspect they aren’t popular with the Toyota U.K. CEO regardless, embarrassing and now costly cock up!
 
Had a response today. It's not just a £500 payment which I kind of hoped; but they will reimburse me up to £500 for the fitting of an aftermarket alarm (while stating that they cant supply one, nor fit an aftermarket one, nor even advise who I can approach to install one).

Going to have a think. Not sure how reliable aftermarket systems are, and how much work to get them fitted. Don't want to be left with a Phoenix Nights style alarm which I can't shut off, not have to deal with spare fobs, etc. Really I'd just want a proper, incorporated alarm...you know, like most car makers fit :/
 
Strange that they’ve done that, when they’ve already offered someone else (possibly more than one) just a straight £500?

I had a tracker fitted at my own expense when I found out there wasn’t an alarm. Perhaps they can pay for that and the subscription costs incurred since.
