Just thought I would share the underseal process I had done on my GR by preserve and protect in Scotland. (I do not work for them and did not receive any discount etc to write this)

I know there are many veins of thought on underseal, some think it is a waste of time while others go for the DIY option with something like Lanoguard.

I'm not really interested in getting into that argument it has been covered else where but as someone who looked for advice before I got mine done I hope this may help someone else!

I decided to go for the professional route, I am fairly hands on with car work but do not have the time / garage equipment or know how to disassemble the car safely then underseal knowing I've done it right. It obviously cost more than doing it yourself, but for me it seemed worth it as it is not something I would have enjoyed doing or had the ability to due to time and equipment restraints.

The company I went to was Preserve and Protect just outside of Paisley, they have many glowing reviews across motoring forums and have done a few other GR's before mine. They were honest, upfront and fitted me in within a weeks notice around some other ongoing restoration work. I was sent before and after photos (will put some below) and had the process explained as the following.

The Dinitrol process takes approx. 5 - 7 days to complete each vehicle, it is an in-depth service we provide and very thorough.

Once your Vehicle comes in we remove the wheels and plastic liners. We needle descale any flaking rust and fully steam clean the underside of the vehicle using a degreaser, from here we will treat the rust with rust convertor this is left to cure overnight. (Only applicable if rust present, this is our process if we come across anything).

The next stage is to Inject all sills and cavities with cavity wax.

The last stage is to treat the full underside with Underbody wax this is left to cure.

With your style of vehicle we will carryout a double injection of cavity wax into all cavities for maximum protection.

We carryout Free annual Inspections, bring your vehicle back and we can fully Inspect its overall condition after each year.

Really happy with the results, and as there are free annual inspections this is an ongoing investment which will keep paying off over time.

The guys who run the shop are proper petrol heads who really care about what they do and take pride in it. They had a DC2 Integra there on the ramps which had been owned since import for 14 years but had no underbody protection for welding work and underseal, it's scary to see the effects of lack of proper protection over time combined with Scottish roads that have salt on them from about October-March.

Hope this helps anyone else considering getting the work done, happy to answer any questions!

They do some outstanding work. Some of the shit they bring back to life amazes me.

Nice peace of mind there

Looks amazing. Great that they do the engine bay with high temp wax too. Are you allowed to say how much?

P.S. was hoping for pics of the rusty Teg!

It comes in at £840 inc the vat
Less than a PPF or about the same as a 5 year ceramic coat done by a detailer!

Sorry should have said that in the post!

Off the back of this post I’ve just messaged them about another car I own

Just to add to this thread, Dan at Devon Undersealing has done mine this week in the same process, very similar pics (but all in fruit based HEIC format so can't post atm), and again authenticity when you see STis and Evos in the vicinity. Recommended

I will second Preserve and Protect for anybody further North. I got mine back from there last week and pics are pretty much identical to @ehath28 ’s ones so won’t bother reposting.

Mark is a great character to chat to and has a really nice collection of cars too. There was also a gorgeous yellow Evo 8 around in the yard which was pristine, I’d still love one of those one day but still more than happy with my Yaris! Collection was followed by a brilliant drive along the St Mary’s Loch road from Moffat, hadn’t yet been on that in the car.

Can I ask how long they had the vehicle for to do the work ? . . . . might be something for the GR86 that I have on order . . . :)

Dropped off on a Friday and collected the following one, seems to be his standard timings. Strip down and prep of 10 hours, application on the Wednesday then dry and put back together, original info:

"For a car like yours I would recommend a cavity wax treatment at £180 (Dinitrol 1000) and then a top coat in black at £180 (Dinitrol 4941). The Cavity Wax is a fantastic product and it protects against rust from the inside, areas often missed by manufacturers. I apply this inside the chassis, sills, bonnet frame, all the doors and tailgate. The top coat is then applied to all the underside of the vehicle. This product offers a really good level of protection, It will not chip off with general road use and stick so well it will not wash off over time like WaxOil does. The rest of the quote is made up the labour charge. This is £60 an hour and this can mount up depending on how clean the vehicle is. Dinitrol is a fantastic product but it will only adhere well if it is applied to a rust / dirt or grease free surface. So a large part of the cost is the cleaning process. Another cost factor is how much trim you would like removing i.e, wheel arch liners and bumpers. As I treat a vehicle I take lots of photos and send them onto you to keep.
Regarding time scale, a treatment will take a week and I normally ask that the car be with me from Friday to Friday, this gives me a chance to get it nice and dry over a weekend before it is treated and allows drying times between products. This is not set in stone and where I can I will work to suit you. If you would like to book an appraisal, this normally takes around an hour, I put the vehicle up on a lift and we both can have a good look under it to see its condition and talk through the treatment in more detail. This is also free of charge. My company is based in Ashburton and if this is to far for you to travel, please let me know and I will try and come up with another way to price the job."

Thanks for the information - appreciated.

I'm going to go there for an imminent camper purchase. Had my GR dinatrol'd locally as it was logistically easy ore-pickup but their work speaks for itself really - especially on older stuff that needs pre-work.

Finally got my delivery date of 18th Jan :D

Want to get it rustproofed asap before the salt gets it. Any recommendations for the South Yorks/Derbys area ?

Anybody here have an idea how these two covers are removed? Just a matter of removing some clips? Just want to make sure I have the correct tools when I have the car on lift :) Thanks!

Got the GR86 back from J R Classics https://www.jrclassics.co.uk/ (near Doncaster) today after having it undersealed. I wanted to keep it looking as standard as possible so they used Dinitrol 4010 along with ML cavity wax. Joe did a great job, I would defiantly recommend (y)
