GR86 TPMS - New Wheels

Bought a spare set of wheels that are from another GR86, who’s owner decided to put some aftermarket wheels on.
Decided to change the colour before fitting them onto my car.
After fitting them, it has brought the tpms light on, and have lost the figures on the read out.
Although the new wheels are GR wheels, with Toyota tpms sensors, they are obviously not talking to my car.
Looking at the handbook, there seems to be a way to re-sync the new sensors with the car, although I haven’t had any joy.
I have just booked the car in for its first service, and ask if they could take a look and hopefully re-set the sensors, so the new wheels work with my car.
the guy on service reception, said that it would require the tyres to be taken off, to get the serial numbers from the sensors before they could re-sync them.
Really? this sounds a little bizarre to me, but thought I would ask the question on here before going into the dealer.
Any advice/ comments would be much appreciated.

Shouldn’t be necessary to take the wheels off - take a look at the early posts in the winter wheels & tyres thread.

believe it should be possible to reprogram your new TPMS with something like a “Autel MaxiTPMS TS501 TPMS Relearn Tool UK/EU”
 
i've got new wheels coming and i've bought the Autel 315/433 dual frequency valves.

Anyone got an Autel Programmer I can borrow/rent to program them to the car?
 
I would be interested to hear how you get on with the Autel valves as I am thinking of getting a set. I don't have a programmer though..

Anywhere that deals with TPMS regularly will likely have a reader that can 'sniff' the serial numbers (assuming the sensors are still working).
 
If they have the Toyota TPMS sensors just put the car into learn mode through the menu and drive for 5-10 mins and it should pick them up. do not engage reverse after selecting the re-learn as that will cancel it. Mine picks up a 2nd set of wheels ok and I didn’t clone the TPMS sensors or anything.

I bought universal sensors unfortunately. A set of 4 Toyota ones would be £220 whilst my Universal's set me back £75. I actually got 4 more spare if anyone needs a set.

A group of us will be at Newlands Corner for Sunday Supras tomorrow [Sunday 21st January 2022] I plan to be there between 09:45 and 10:15 [fitting in between Uber duties for family]

I can bring a programming tool if that works.

Thanks for the heads-up but I won't have the sensors till end of Feb. Maybe we can hook up sometime in March.

Go to the settings page on the in-dash display with the buttons on the left hand side of the steering wheel, the page lists LTA, PCS, RSA etc, scroll down and you'll get Vehicle Settings, hold the OK button to enter, then go to TPWS Setting and OK, then you'll see option for setting pressure, Identifying Each Wheel and Position. Select this and OK. The tyre pressure warning light will probably be flashing on the dash - drive for a while and hopefully it will pickup the sensors and show the pressures

Isn't that for the Yaris, rather than the 86?
 
Finally got the set-up of my winter wheels and tyres finished today. Fitted Bartec TPMS which I believe are the OEM brand fitted. Tyre fitter read the codes from the original sensors, programmed the new sensors with the same codes and all working perfectly. Means I can switch wheels without recoding. 😊

I'm back with the Autel Sensors. Can the Autel sensors be programmed when installed into the rim or best have them done before install?
