I feel this car deserves it's own thread. While there a few rumors floating around about more potential GR cars this one has already left that stage and has already been spotted driving around. Here is a quick run down on it.

Toyota debuted their GR GT3 concept car in January 2022.

Only a few months later pictures meant for trademark securing got leaked

Now in January 2024 Toyota secured themselves the name "GR GT" both in Europe and the USA.

Only a few weeks ago a mule was seen testing in Belgium

The car will definitely feature a V8. Rumors are it will be twin-turbo charged and making around 600 hp.

Despite being a completely different concept it actually shares its idea with the GR Yaris which Toyota also acknowledged in their own press release:

"TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) is committed to further accelerating customer motorsports activities. By promoting “driver first” vehicle development and with a desire to provide attractive cars that customers participating in GT3 - the pinnacle of customer motorsports - would choose, TGR has unveiled the GR GT3 Concept."

"As was the case with the GR Yaris, by commercialising motorsports cars rather than simply adapting production vehicles for use in motorsports, TGR intends to use feedback and technologies refined through participation in various motorsports activities to develop both GT3 and mass-production cars and further promote making ever-better motorsports-bred cars."

There's barely a bad looking GT3 racer, but that just looks immense.

Road version, please!

That looks mega. I suppose this is what happens when you say to your car designers "fill your boots" no road safety standards/regulations to deal with.

The greyscale imagery is to protect the 'Design' of the car will look like that. As a 'Design' protects the form and look of something. I have worked in IP for 20+ years and a look into Toyotas previous car filings show this will be how the final car looks. Filing worldwide design rights is not cheap. So there is a strong chance what you see in that greyscale image is what the final car will look like.

The branding/logo is a 'Trademark' and again if its had worldwide filing it's not cheap and that's what it will be called.

Tokyo Auto Salon Debut for 2025?

What gets me with GT3 and other race classes is how great they look with modest wheels and some chunky sidewalls.

Why manufacturers don't offer such wheel/tyre combinations on their roads cars is beyond me.

Oh I hope you are right about this. I would love if the car will look like this. There are some more images.

But I wouldn't be surprised if some features will be toned down somewhat for the road version even if just because of regulatory reasons. I mean those canards, front splitter and the diffuser are massive. Also when was the last car released that had side pipes?

I guess a reveal at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2025 is pretty likely if the rumors about it being used for the 2026/2027 season are true.

At a guess it will be in the league of Lexus LFA in terms of quantity suppled and price I reckon. As homologation for GT3 racing only require a small amount of cars to be built.

"A minimum of 10 cars must now be made within the first 12 months of a car being homologated, and a minimum of 20 cars within two years."

That's me just guessing though ;)

On a slightly more interesting note I was searching the EU Design database this morning and found this which had been published 2 months ago... New MR2 coming?

Oh wow. Only so few cars need to be made for GT3 homologation? Damn.
Yeah I guess it taking the old Lexus LFA position could be true then. I mean a bespoke front-mid V8 engined sports car is definitely something other brands are selling for 100-200K and up. Guess I need to start saving up then 🤣

There are always seem to pop up some rumors about a new MR2. Recently I saw rumors about a Celica revival and that Toyota will be cutting ties with Subaru and will make the next-generation 86 completely on their own and it will powered by the G16E-GTS.
All that sounds awesome but as long as we don't have actual proof like seeing some prototype cars driving around I will take all of them with a grain of salt though.

The wing looks like something one of the drift boys would bang on an old 200sx. Nice looking car though. Can't wait to see if the new MR2 will break cover before TAS 2025.

I like that the GT3 spirit is still visible. Big vents in the fenders and in the back to get the air out of them. Giant hood to get the engine behind the front axle. I'm looking forward to details about the engine itself.

Unfortunate that the side pipes seem to have gone though. Really liked them on the concept car. But I guess there is a good reason nobody is really doing them anymore. Be it regulations or something else

You can see it on a recent SSC Nürburgring video.

The more I see of it, the more I’m reminded of Hoonicorn
