Hey guys,

with the introduction of the new Toyota App we suddenly got a driving analytics score and I was wondering if your scores look as bad as mine 😂

It's almost like it's not made for the GR Yaris, just regular non-sporty cars? What do you think? I swear I'm not driving like a maniac 😂

You’ve answered it already. This app is made for the generic Toyota range.

I was just about to post that we should hold a competition, first one to hit zero wins, but Harold has already taken the Trophy!

Seriously, what a load of cynical nanny state bollocks. Stinks of the social score they have in Chinese cities. And Black Mirror episodes.

It's a shame there isn't an overview for everything, it's just current month. My lowest month so far is in the 20s.

Funny thing is I don't drive like a maniac in the lightest, which is what makes this comical.

The “worst”: 0 - proper driving @ a GR-Event. The “best”: 93 - chilling on the Autobahn

If the score is generated from accelerometer derived data alone, the App is complete nonsense.

I wont bore you with the full technical explanation.

Accelerometer [or G-Force measurement] can only provide the crudest insight into driver performance. Without contextualisation to geographic location it’s near pointless. Next to useless as an insurance underwriting rating factor.

Progressive Insurance in the US have more “customer driving data” than anyone else [allegedly]. Though this could have changed; the Italian market may have allowed Generali [Italy’s largest insurer] to overtake them - telemetry recorders were mandated after Italy passed a law recommending Telematics for all insurance in August 2017,

Progressive pioneered the use of an “OBD11 telematics device” which customers could plug into their car, drive for a month and then FreePost back to Progressive’s underwriters who would analyse the driver/vehicle data to refine a premium calculation.

The big take-away was that “the data” wasn’t the useful rating factor.

The fact that a customer was prepared to enter and complete the process was.

In other words, if customers think they are good drivers and are prepared to share their data, they are probably better [safer] drivers. This “self-selection” is easy to build into rating calculations and a doddle to implement into customer buying processes.

Premium calculation has much more to do with key rating factors like age, location, No-claims-discount, vehicle type and mileage in combination with an underwriters appetite for market share/profitability.

Gender was one of the best key rating factors but the EEC Gender Directive [Effective 21.12.2012] outlawed the use of actuarial factors related to sex in the provision of insurance and other related financial services.

For a driving app to be successful it needs to be based on GPS data, collected at no-more than single second interval/frequency.

This driver data must be contextualised to geography, location and if possible a host of other factors, before comparison to a benchmark dataset of “ideal” driving behaviours.

Sounds complicated and even then will only assist underwriters if they can analyse a big database - a dataset for upwards of 250,000 users.

Ultimately too expensive and kind of pointless given the big-picture and the learnings around “self-selection’.

If someone is prepared to share their data because they think they are a better driver, they probably are - especially if they are female!

havent used old MyT for 6 months and wont install the new one.
Often less is better.

New MyT does show quite a lot less information at least in its early form. I actually quite liked knowing the hard acceleration and braking. Which is what I expect is used in this score.

I don't really mind the score, if anything it's a notification I'm not being fun enough if I post high 😜

Just been looking at this new app. It really is marginally worse, isn’t it?

Anyway, it’s easy to get 0 or low single digits on a very short journeys, maybe the challenge is the longest 0-rated trip? Or maybe <5 for really long trips?

It’s also managed to balls up the service history. The mileages are wrong and my last service is down as a ‘repair’.

If it weren’t for the singular fact that I might forget where I parked my car at Goodwood FoS, I would delete it immediately.

Good spot. One of my services is completely missing!
