Hi All

Asking for a friend can a tow ball be fitted to the GT 86 for a bike carrier. Can’t seem to see any uk car fitted. Or can anyone confirm a Uk bike rack fit. Just to be clear this is a GT not a GR.I know a lot of you guys have had the GT previously.

Thanks in advance

Pretty sure the manual says not to use it for towing, but I've seen people use the 2 rear towing eye holes for a bike rack

I’d consider one for the exact same reason but not sure it would be good for the look

Thanks for your response guys. I think this is the issue. There not much actual experience of anyone fitting a tow ball or roof rack. Makes it a bit of a risky purchase if you needs these facilities.

As Mike says, he needs to do it this way...

...Or use a seasucker

That's the one. If you're looking for roof rack or roof mounting at least, I think @PaulT is the man to ask

Was looking at Seasucker Talon. The bike I have (in different colour actually on a GR86)

There is the Seasucker Komodo too but it's like £1500!

I have sea sucker myself I use on my 3 door cooper S. It s a good bit of kit but my friend used to use one but wants to get away from them

You can rivet in a roof rack, I've seen it done on a GT86. I'd not want to do this personally.

Otherwise you're looking at a 'hitch' as the Americans call it. I am unsure if they are available in the UK so would have to import one I think.

Google images for 'GR86 hitch' shows up a blue GR86 with a bike carrier on the rear if youre looking for examples.

I persuaded my wife, who very generously agreed, to have a tow bar fitted to the CX5, thats now the 'bike' carrier car.

I'd not want to mess up the 86 after a few hours winter MTB riding tbh...

My only concern with Seasucker is how far would I trust it. Taking it less then 30 mile for servicing/bike fit is fine but I was offered to do a ride up Middlesbrough way next year which is several hours from Swansea
