GR Yaris Theory - Is the Fuel Gauge for the Elderly

Still waiting for the light to come on, and range is showing as 23 miles now. 🤔

I did ring the garage today and they said it should be fine and to trust the gauge rather than the range.....

Is this usual?

You're on your first tank, maybe the range needs calibration of sorts. Just fuel it up nearing 0 miles and see how much goes in. If more than 43-44l goes in, something might be wrong with the tank level sensor.
 
I will leave it to everyone else to experiment in this way, I am looking to refuel at the last quarter mark only drift below if I am having an issue finding a fuel station. Last summer I got all the way from Doncaster to Bodmin moor on my way to St Ives, could have made it all the way to St Ives but far too risky.

First full tank and I don't expect to see that again until I make a long trip. Now that I'm over 300 miles I'll be using more of the rev range and working the engine a little harder.

I find the light comes on when it says 20 miles till empty regardless of how much fuel is in it!

I am sure it calculates how far to empty from how far you went last time with it!!
 
My light comes on sooner than 20 miles remaining on the range, sometimes 30 or 40 miles left.

But then that means I've got easily double that range left in real terms!

1,54 EUR?? Are you refuelling in heaven? Some time down the river I've seen under 2 EUR. Over 2,30ish at the moment for Diesel or S+. 😀
 
I filled up tonight. The light came on at 12 miles left and I filled at 11 miles left. I brimmed the tank and managed to fit 41.49 litres in so now I know there's lots left for next time. :)

lol that was a couple of weeks ago. €1.71 for diesel now, but it spiked to €2.12 last week.

Hope you get to use the fuel fairly quickly & enjoying the new car 🤞
 
Think mine comes on at 15-20miles left. I struggled to get near 30mpg at first, I'm now getting between 30-32mpg with a mix of commuting and some spirited driving. I'm on 5500 miles now and feel like the mpg's getting better and have never seen the 40's some have got .

Even after only 300 odd miles, I can feel the car loosening up. I have a long hill on the way to work and the car can now maintain speed without throttle.
 
Tested this again yesterday -> range was 1km when went for a fillup and filled her up with 45ltrs of fuel.
I wouldn't push any luck to drive further than 40km with range zero.
It can take more km's but depends alot of the mileage. Better to play safe here..

Not sure if there is variance in that reserve but have tested this twice and in both times got 5ltr fuel left..
 
I was testing this last week, and got a good 35 miles beyond the 0 miles. I bottled it and put the 25 lts I had in the boot in before I ran out. My plan was to fill the tank at the pumps to see how many lts I had left.
The most annoying thing about this car is the fuel tank, and having to waste time and petrol driving for the bloody stuff!

As I may have said before, it costs half as much to fill the Yaris as it does my other car, which is kind of enjoyable.

But the tank is half the size.

And the car uses twice as much.

So I get the pleasure of it only costing half as much to fill up four times as often :-)
