Thanks all, I am hoping my memory is playing tricks on me and they are the same position as photos above, will know in the next hour or two!
As my car was already at the dealer I left it with them to sort the flushness. Biggest down side bar a round trip in rushhour is having an Aygo X as courtesy car, in this heat with the air con on full it actually struggles to go up a steep hill unless its in 2nd revving its nuts off!

Right well... it turns out I need to have serious words with my vision/memory/brain, as getting the car back today the sensors are exactly where the ones fitted to everyone else's are, I could have sworn they were not!! Anyway, sensors now nice and flush and look much much better than yesterday. Ducktail fitted and alignment is perfect, front mud flaps also fitted, might take a bit of getting used to as they're a bit clunky but they should provide some protection to the side, worst case I'll take them off in summer and refit in winter.

p.s - I can recommend Guildford Service dept - Jordan has been great looking after the car and making sure the sensors were sorted.

Apart from mine that have been fitted in the same places as the automatics . Yours look flush now. Glad you got them sorted

I am still happy about my ninja parking sensors. Almost invisible if you only take a faint look at them from some distance

Needles to say that these sensors were not installed by Toyota. I got them installed by the the company which also upgraded the audio system.

So what benefipt was there to paying a few hundred pounds to get non OEM reversing sensors, over going free of charge OEM?

My car was a development platform for them and I got the sensors at a discounted price and paid nothing in addition for the worktime. In Germany you were able to decide to get the sensors retrofitted for free or to receive a 300€ voucher. I have taken the latter, saved money in the end and have good looking sensors now

By the way: the hardware comes from the same company as the original sensors but is more advanced. The sound does not only get faster, it is also changing its pitch and when I go into reverse mode, the volume of the audio system is automatically lowered. The controller unit was also tweaked to perfection so that I can park really close to something if I want to.

I've had the "free" parking sensors installed by the dealer last week (after waiting for 5 months to have them delivered and painted first...).

They haven't fitted them properly, as every single one of them is sitting higher on one side and not flush with the bumper. That's despite me asking them to do a quality check after fitting and before I pick the car up.

They kept the car overnight to try to figure out the remote passenger door unlocking working, but couldn't, and weren't really that keen on taking on feedback from me on how it's done in the software.

Honestly, I'm dreading dropping my car off with the dealer for any other work. I will have to schedule it in for the sensors refitting, but hoping it can be done at the same time as when they figure out how to change the couple of software settings.

As for the sensors, they're not that helpful in my experience so far. There's an annoying sound cue when you put the car in reverse now, they start beeping quite early and the sound appears to be coming only from the rear passenger quarter, so it's difficult for me to judge when and where I'm near an object. The camera and mirros work fine already.

I'd skip them, given a choice again.

Tbh, same. They work okay, but given that taking my car to them ended up with it being damaged while it was with them, resulting in me being without for weeks, it wasn't really worth the bother.

I have noticed that a couple of the sensors aren't sitting quite flush. Didn't bother me too much, can only spot if you stick a fingernail in between them and the bumper. At least they are all in the right position. I was considering taking it back to have them sort it, but I also noticed when cleaning the car the other day, that the rear bumper also has a bit of a scratch around where it meets the rear lights. Evidently they weren't too careful when putting the bumper back on and took some paint off.

Pissed me off if I'm honest, but if I go back and have then sort it I'll be without the car again and no guarantee something else wont get damaged. It's barely noticeable so I'll just touch it up myself. Wish I'd listened to those who said they weren't going to get them fitted due to not trusting their dealers would do a good job tbh.

When I had mine installed they said they come pre painted (after receiving "unpainted" ones, they were actually painted black and sent them away to be painted blue) So they re ordered the correct blue ones which came painted blue.

Do you mean there's no position indication on the screen? It feels pretty useless if it only gives a sound alert

It's not integrated with the head unit, so you don't get any visual cues for how close you are to an object when reversing. The sound alert appears to be only coming from one side as well, but that may be either my hearing or an incorrect installation by the dealer.

Of course the car comes with the reverse camera and rear cross traffic alert, which work well enough in most situations (especially when you upgrade the reverse lights to LEDs).

So do I.. I debated whether to buy the mudflaps and fit them myself but SWMBO said “for the sake of £50 Labour just let them fit them”… if my maths is right I think they are £170 fitted and £120 to buy from Toyota?

It isn't on my config summary either, but TOL gave me my VIN, which allowed me to look up the spec (even though it's 'standard').

I have taken the 'parking support RCTA' as the rear cross traffic assist - I asked for confirmation from TOL to be met with a roaring silence (I don't think they know, but are prepared to make an occasional guess).

They are not listed in their webshop yet. There is only a short blog post about the sensors. If you are interested you can try to contact them via [email protected]
The set costs 269€ (incl. 19% VAT). I don't know if they ship to UK.
One important thing for a good result is the drilling of the hole. They also offer a special drill for the holes but no idea what it costs in addition.
