GR86 The GR86 “The Orders / Owners List / GR86 Register”

Can't see how selling out an entire production run in 90 minutes can be considered a business success. It's a disaster. Unprecedented is a word being used by Toyota. As if it was going to be any other way? No need to play naive and pretend they didn't see it coming.

Toyota build mass produced, affordable cars for the normal population. It's not a prestigious brand. They bring out a fabulous, affordable sports car obtainable to most, then make it unobtainable by not being able to supply enough, talk about dangling the carrot.

If Toyota are being deliberately obtuse about the availability of future cars as a ploy try to a make the GR brand prestigious, then it's not going to work as all its doing is creating uncertainty and frustration.

If Toyota are not being obtuse and they simply do no know, that's even worse. How can a business of that size not know what's going on. That's just embarrassing.

I feel blessed I managed to get one but I do think the whole game for the GR86 has been a farce.
 
Beyond promoting the brand, what other reason would there be for GR dealerships to have one on their forecourt? It worries me that Toyota implied the entire UK allocation was sold out as then there is no incentive to market the cars or offer test drives if you can never get one anyway.

And if these remaining cars destined for GR dealerships are then not sold via the online process, you can bank on dealers registering them and selling them at a pretty premium as we previously anticipated.

I've posted in this thread before about the reasons why I think the allocation will sell out pretty quickly but some people chose to ignore or dispute it and then got bitter when they couldn't get the car:

Porsche haven’t done too badly building their GT brand by selling out before even released !! Only way to get a car is luck or knowing the DP and buying lots of other P products. If Toyota really do just stick to 400 cars I suppose what they have done is one of the fairer ways. Just shouldn’t have let those early 30 pre sales slip through. Good luck to those who got an early production date. Toyota has been big on external comms but pretty poor communicating internally with customers and dealers. That’s why so many people have been stressed and annoyed. Not sure the reason behind that. Should have been far more up front with the sales process

Will the dealers actually own the demo cars or will they remain the property of Toyota GB? The sales material which @Richard Mckay shared refers to “Demo cars being allocated to dealers in June” . I’d be guessing that Toyota will want to control the stock 🤔

It's possible the demos are supplied and owned by Toyota UK and therefore can't be sold by the dealerships.

Depending on numbers dealers may also have one sat in a showroom so people can look but not buy.

Toyota did that with the GR Yaris when it launched.

Given how the sales for GR86 has been online only, I suspect they'll do the same so they can control the demo stock and prevent any funny business with cancelled orders and high prices.
 
I guess we will know if the 400 is all the cars as people get their estimated delivery dates next week. If some of us are early/mid/ late 23 we know the answer !! Wonder if anyone will cancel if given mid/ late 23 production date ? Plenty on reserve list I guess ? If they are sticking to 400 a number 1of 400 might be a nice addition inside by Toyota U.K.

Was hoping I would get the toyota call today but checked they are closed today "Our hours of business are 8.30am to 8pm Monday to Friday." Unless they plan to do overtime to catch up on the orders from last week:unsure:
 
I can't imagine so. The rest of us should probably expect the call Monday-Tuesday.

Firstly, do you ever have anything positive to say? I'm secretly hoping you're visited by the Ghosts of GR86 Future...

Secondly, I think most people would wait. If these cars are going to be that scarce, purely from a financial point of view, it would cause the prices of these cars to massively inflate. Since markets are entirely dictated by supply vs demand. So sure, it might put peoples backs up for not getting the car when they wanted it... but I think a good majority of people would either wait and then use it for themselves. Or alternatively, be annoyed so much that they go off the car, but keep the order purely for financial gains.

I doubt that Toyota will do that but I’m sure someone will come up with a ”1 of 400” sticker on EBay 😉.

It may be possible to decode where you are in the build sequence from the VIN number , I had a TT QS240 which was a true Limited Edition ( not looking to reignite that debate ) and you could determine your build slot from the last 3/4 digits on the VIN. A TT forum member sourced someone to do nice engine bay plates engraved with your build number. 👍

It's interesting actually because it looks like there's loads of GT86... but I have to say I rarely see them. I know we're a "big" country (we're not really) but still looking at those numbers makes me think I should see one daily and I don't!
 
How many GR Yaris do you reckon we would have got if that was a global market car? The yanks missed out on that one but had it been available there it would have massively impacted on the UK allocation.

As for not knowing the difference between GT and GR, there are plenty of enthusiasts that will want one no matter what the price, especially after UK media coverage. Can already imagine the top gear hype "last of its kind” and "sold out in 90 mins" etc
 
Given how popular the original FRS, GT86 and BRZ were on a global scale (let's ignore that they are still relatively rare in the UK) it just proves that Subaru could keep up with demand. The world is a different place now for sure but there is no reason why they can't build and sell more cars in the EU right up until they aren't allowed to.
 
Hi all, just joined as I ordered an Ice Silver Manual with a confirmation of both order number and Ocra number at 10.24 on Wednesday. No delivery date yet, but looking forward to getting my hands on it. It’s going to be a great drivers car.

Morning @grzoostuff.

The 'phone lines are open weekdays from 10am to 4pm, although the staff work on until about 5:30pm, so it's possible you might get a call after the lines close.

I spoke yesterday with the delightful person handling my order, and was assured that my car would be delivered in August or quite possibly earlier. And for the avoidance of any doubt, they really were delightful - I have found all the people at Toyota to be helpful and enthusiastic throughout this process, despite the pressure under which they are working. As yet, I have no information on the MyT app, but I suppose that will follow as the system updates.

Regarding demonstrators, I seem to remember that the GR Yaris went on a sort of 'dealership tour' when first launched. Given the demand and limited supply, I suppose Toyota could bring a dozen or so cars to the UK to give to the media in May, and then rotate them around dealerships in June with priority for road tests given to those with existing orders? I was also under the impression that demonstrators might only be available at GR Centres (of which there are about 36 by my count?), but I would not assume that means that each Centre would have their own car to keep.

Either way, it's good to see so many orders being confirmed, and the system creaking into motion. As far as I can tell, the vast majority of us who genuinely wanted a GR86 seem to have been able to place our orders.

I'm prepared to concede that Toyota knows better how to run a global car company than I do. Personally, I'm very happy with my experience thus far, and I hope we can keep the discussion positive - after the last two years, we don't have too much longer to wait!
