GR86 The GR86 “The Orders / Owners List / GR86 Register”

I gave in and called my dealer, they said that the website was an error and they're trying to get the orders on the system that were placed in person, but the system isn't working yet.

As Banksy said above, it seems that they have placed the order but the system can't allocate anything yet, so I won't get a confirmation until then.

It appears to be a very long meeting... No call back so far!
 
Maybe they are all busy trying find the person who put the website live?
 
Just got off the phone with my dealer. Orders on Toyota’s end aren’t updated yet so not able to be placed. Between now and Thursday is what they’re expecting.

Small interesting bit of info: online orders will take a few weeks longer than dealer orders. This is because online ones all have to go to Derby to be PDI’d by Toyota themselves, whereas dealer orders go to the respective dealer for PDI.

Are you sure? I would have thought the nominated dealer would do the PDI, think it’s just a case of pulling the paint protection film off and putting a few swirl marks in the paint with a gritty cloth🤣

Just going by what my dealer has said on the phone!
 
All I would say is my online order was placed even though I have a dealer deposit pre-order pending for months. The key thing is it was mentioned in last week dealer bulletin that GR86 order process was going to be unique to avoid the GR Yaris debacle of some key dealers ordering most of the allocation. That said in my case the GR86 buy online process
1. finance credit checked
2. Setup direct debit mandate
3. requested my driving license to be loaded on to Toyota GB site
4. confirmed my Toyota finance approval reference
5. Toyota GB charged £250 deposit.
I have provided same details for another Toyota I ordered 7 months back and registered in March 2022. Being Toyota they will honour GR86 online order they confirmed by email.

Ordering issues aside, I have to say that if I didn't already have a GR Yaris I would be all over this.

Manual, rear wheel drive, an NA engine with enough power.......this will be the last of this kind of car.

I think I would go for the silver or red but so hard without seeing them in person.
 
Did those that got charged the £250 online went with finance?

No I was cash purchase and paid £250 deposit.

Also got asked to upload ID and confirm bank details that funds would be sent from.

Not sure why mine has gone through, no charge on my CC. I called my local dealer and ordered on the phone but I am no 7 on the list 😔, although that's also not confirmed until the order goes through. Very disappointing
 
I'm not sure what's going on with online orders anymore than anyone else, but I don't suppose the plan for Toyota UK was for someone to guess the URL of the online configurator, and for it then to be published to online forums which lead to very eager enthusiasts (and hopefully not speculators wanting to get hold of a car to sell on for a quick profit if supply is limited) placing orders over the weekend. If the original plan was online orders only, then I'd guess this has changed as a launch bulletin was sent out to dealers recently, but who knows.
Anyway, I have been following this thread, watching way too many YouTube videos about the GR86, and decided today to visit the dealer who I bought my Supra from, and have ordered (well, as much as I can until Toyota UK confirm the order) a manual GR86 in Sapphire Blue. It feels strange that I'm going from a Supra to a GR86, but I think the fact the GR86 will be a manual, the engine has no turbo, and the car weighs a lot less, will make this a much more fun car to drive (despite being much lower powered). I'm hoping this is more sports car, where the Supra makes an amazing GT car. I guess I'll find that out when the demo cars arrive in June. Fingers crossed for all of us that have placed an order early get what we want by July.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, and my sympathies to those who feel cheated by leaving deposits with dealers. I know that I'm a first-time poster, so please feel free to read my post with a pinch of scepticism. I just thought I'd add my tuppence-worth to repay the debt of gratitude for your posts.

As I understand it, there were no more than a couple of dozen orders actually put through the website while it was live over the weekend. After the experience of the GR Yaris (long waits, and lots ending up on Auto Trader with 50 miles and £5k mark-ups), Toyota has considered an online-only order process for the GR86, to avoid unscrupulous dealers (*cough* J-LR) profiting from ghost orders for cars that can be sold off forecourts over list. Technically, dealers should not be taking deposits for this car, though some are clearly taking the opportunity to put business through their own tills while others are still turning away potential customers .

Anecdotally, I would agree with the earlier contribution from @86GR - not many people were going to impulse-buy this car in their pyjamas on Saturday night. I think it's fair to say that we've all been following the development, announcements and anticipation of the release of this car over the past year or so. Hopefully Toyota will honour the online orders, as those customers are probably among the most passionate devotees and their orders won't make any significant impact on allocation from the initial supplies of vehicles over the summer, whether direct from Toyota when the system goes live officially, or orders placed through dealerships. I have been told that the initial wave of cars has not yet sold out, but I doubt the source and it's possible that more popular colour/gearbox combinations may be harder to secure in the first wave of summer cars.

We should know more in the next day or so, but let's not lose sight of what matters: it should be a cracking car, and hopefully those of us fortunate enough to get one should have some great miles ahead!

I did build a car using the online configurator and save the configuration to my account. I've just logged in and I'm still able to go through the checkout process and pay the 250 reservation fee for a cash purchase. No option for finance but seems I could place an order.

We landed a man on the moon in 1969 however these days nothing ever seems to be tightly managed. Wonder how many people working on this launch were working from home. Pretty basic stuff really. My first Toyota in a few years and not really that impressed. Even Lotus managed the online and dealer sales ok with the Emira launch
 
All it comes down too now is how efficient the sales administrator is at the dealer you have chosen. As soon as the Toyota system goes live orders will be processed. It will be no different for the orders placed online. They will need processing just the same on the same system as orders placed in dealerships.

We have all tryed to get in early by placing a deposit before the week commencing the 11th April, from what I have heard not that many got placed online and Toyota will be contacting those who did to confirm once the system goes live.

If your order is on top of the sales administrators pile of work then you will be lucky and may get one of the first. If at the bottom then you may have to wait a little longer. This part is out of our control. Just need luck
 
That's not the complete picture. The process can change based on if Toyota are struggling to process cars at Derby.

I've known of internet cars receiving the PDI at Derby and some at the dealer.

The route they take presumably depends how stretched Derby are.

I agree they do all go to Derby for distribution, then out to the dealer network.
