The wrap was started yesterday and I couldn't help myself - I went to see how it was getting on today.
Wrapped Yaris.webp

It's an Avery wrap - which I thought was going to be red with a flash of gold but it seems I was wrong.

The pillars and gutter will be wrapped again in black so everything above the glass will be black.

Very different cant wait to see it finished to get the full effect!

Interesting you have gone for 17 inch wheels, is there any particular reason for this?

Yes, I'm an old fart and prefer comfort over style. The smaller the sidewall on a tyre, the less ability it has to deflect when dealing with uneven road surfaces.
Big wheels and skinny tyres started off as a way to get bigger brakes on a race car, running on a smooth racetrack and people now want that style and aren't worried about the ride.

I've also opted for Uniroyal Rainsport tyres, which I've always found to be more compliant.

Looking really good& glad the wheels fit well, I’ve had 17’s on mine but was a little concerned about stone’s getting caught..

Stones can get caught in all wheels. Even the standard ones could catch a 1/2" pebble between wheel and caliper if you get in gravel. All a stone will do is make a noise before being 1/ broken, 2/ spat back out or 3/ scratch the wheel or caliper a little.

Can't help but feel that the wheels look a bit plain, are they staying silver? They just look a bit like they came off a SE level Focus or something

They're staying silver. They will probably be swapped to winter tyres and now that I'm confident most 17s will fit with the spacers, I'll be getting a different set for summer use - probably still silver though.

I find the difference between (the same total wheel + tyre weight) larger and smaller diameter is more the grainy feeling through the car.

The biggest difference I notice is total unsprung mass, if you reduce this the force from hitting a bump is less thus the chassis (sprung mass) is deflected less.

The trouble is most larger wheels weigh more and or the sidewall on sportier wheels is often much stiffer. However on the Yaris the 18” wheels are pretty light.

Do you know the total mass of your 17” set up vs the 18”

Not saying the extra 1/2” doesn’t do much, but in my experience, it’s good to look at everything

PS I run on 16” wheels (over stock 17”) on another car for the same reason you have on the Yaris. But I found lighter 16” wheels, and a soft type sidewall tyre.

The uni sports I think are good soft sidewalls, like you said

No, I haven't weighed the new setup but as the standard wheels are very light, I can't see this set-up being any less and more likely more. IIRC the spacers are close to 1kg each.

Love the wrap! Cant wait to see from the front when complete!

Have to admit not mad about wheels but love you are doing what you want!! And wheels are such a personal choice, and one i have never been able to make so mine have always remained standard!! I keep looking and changing my mind.... doh!

Fantastic!

Finished. :)

My thanks to Stuart at Harbour Print in Dover. I'm more than happy with the work and love the accidental choice of colour(s). It's not for all but if we all liked the same, Toyota wouldn't have produced the GR in the first place. :)

Wheels work a lot better with that colour combo explosion imho 👍

PS: are those 205 section tyres? Haven't pushed them by any chance on a backroad run?

Yeah, not a fan of the wheels, but can't deny that colour is stunning!

225/45-17 tyres so they preserve the rolling radius of the standard tyres (4 extra revolutions per mile - so as near as).
I'm on Uniroyal Rainsport 5s. They probably won't get a good run out before Brands Hatch at the end of the month but I'll report back then. :)
