Knowing what Tamiya are like discontinuing models, I thought I’d pick one of these to build.
I’m also planning to add the Hobby Design extra detail kit too just to add those important bits.

Just starting a thread to post some progress once I get it.
What’s nice is that it comes with engine detail too.
Looking forward to this one.

Some friends bought me one of these as a joke after hearing how long I was going to wait for delivery, I've not started it yet so will be following this to see what I'm missing

Model making can be a bit marmite. You either love it or hate it after the first one.
Patience is required to get the best outcome.
I’ve been building them for years. I do take a while but quality is better than quantity imo.
My downfall is detail. I need to add lots to make it look interesting. Wires and pipes are what makes them look real.

I picked up the detail kit myself, looks like it’ll really add to the already well-detailed Tamiy kit. Not got round to starting yet (a two year old leaves little time!) but was also tempted by the open-door kit from Hobby Design.

For those wanting something less involved, Aoshima are releasing the GR86 as part of their snap-kit range - pre-painted, don’t require glue, have stickers not decals, etc. Detail won’t be as strong but these usually a good intro to modelling.

I saw the door kit but thought it was a bit expensive. It’s more than the Tamiya kit. [emoji23]
Think I’ll give that a miss this time.
I’ll look out for the Aoshima version. Thanks for the heads up.

I got one of these as a Christmas present, just sourced all the Tamiya paints (there's quiet a few of them) and the different glues. Intend to start next week but I think its going to take longer to paint all the parts than stick it together.

Nice one. Would be good to get some progress photos on this thread. See how we all get on.
