GR86 Tail light interference with body work. Check yours!

Just found this on mine after washing it this afternoon! Wish I’d seen this thread sooner. Has anyone taken their car back to get it sorted as a warranty claim?

I checked mine when I first got the car and because it was a 2023 car it had been modified with new parts because of this issue.
What I found was if you remove the cover panel to get access to the fixing bolts you can actually pull the light away from the body and re clamp the bolt.
I used a piece of paper as a feeler gauge to check the gap.

Yeah someone did and it was a disaster. Poor quality respray. To save aggro I'd remove the light and reposition it then use touch up paint. It's a 15 minute job.

Took the car to the dealer this afternoon for them to have a look. Took some pictures and have logged it, offered to spray the quarter if that’s what I wanted. I declined! Got home and pulled the lights out and have touched it up and adjusted the lights. Hopefully won’t get any worse but something I might check periodically! Disappointing on such a modern car, I’ve been super precious about this car as it feels so special compared to my previous cars so finding stuff like this hurts!

Touch up doesn’t look too bad, the match of the Toyota touch up pen is really good.

That makes 2 of us. I spent alot of money getting the front end covered with PPF and the car ceramic coated only for a poorly fitting tail light to chip the paint? You've done a tidy job of it, don't worry you will soon forget about it, I have!

Had a crack at fixing this today. Took both lights off and applied Chipex to the chips. Then unscrewed those nylon mounting heads and put a 1mm washer under each one.

Tbh I'm not sure if the Chipex is a fantastic match, but perhaps I'm expecting too much or didn't apply it all that well. However for this area, it does the job of making it so you can barely notice the chips unless you put your nose against the paint...especially once the cluster was refitted

Er... on the subject of lights, it will be of interest to note the current price of a new headlight from Fisher Bros on the Toyota Direct Parts site is... £2683.10 - and that's almost a £300 reduction in their sale!

Sorted mine today - they had very minor rubbing and mine was an early car.

Quick touch up (then the car :P) washer behind the adjustment screw and re-fitted. Now have clearance all around. Easy and worthwhile job. Cheers.
