I want to install it today but worried that it won't line up and require alignment to reset the new wheel dead centre.
I've got coilovers to go on after winter, which will need full alignment after fitting. It's a tough decision but decided to wait till then....

As long as when you start the wheel is already centred, it should be just a case of making sure you also put the new wheel on centred, no? Presumably the current wheel is aligned correctly. And I assume both are splined, so it should be fairly easy to ensure that it goes on in the same orientation. You'd only want an alignment if the relation between the the road wheels and the steering column itself were wrong.
Or am I oversimplifying? I've never replaced a steering wheel tbf.
Regardless, I like that....not a big fan of the shape, but I like the perforated finish. I still feel like the GRs OEM wheel could do with a bit more texture and grip. The previous cars wheel was better in that regard (the pre-facelift).

Yes, the wheel is splined but the splines are rarely exactly the same location. I've done many over the years.
I've got big hands and found the rim to be slightly thin for what I'm used to (predominantly German cars). Looked at Royal to a re-trim like I did on my previous mx5 wheel (also too thin) but for not much more money, I could get a complete new wheel which is thicker.
I actually like the flat bottom as it aids getting in and out easier. If you don't like this wheel, you will hate the Lotus Emira wheel, it's flat top and bottom. Such a stupid idea.
