GR Yaris (Gen 2) sha256's GR Yaris Mk2

With temperatures dropping below zero remote climate control is a bliss. The car warms up very fast and I no longer have to scrape the ice from windows 😉 by the time I get in the car everything is warm and windows are defrosted. It takes around 15 to 20 minutes. Climate control cuts of after 20 minutes and car stops the engine. When remotely started it also stops the engine whenever I open the doors or boot, a safety feature.

I’ve only used this feature once so far as it’s been relatively mild but agreed a nice added feature for the auto.

Yeah, here being colder, i use it daily.

Reached 1550km today and based on @Armijs example will change the oil and after that can do full sends. I've been driving with no boost mostly and reving up to 4K rpm max (as per dealers recommendation). Car felt relatively fast already so I wonder how fast it really is on full boost and using the whole rev range. Unfortunately the Toyota does not offer the oil change alone and I had to register for 1 year / 10k km service for 160€ 😩 waiting time is two weeks 😞

I’m no specialist and it sounds like your dealer isn’t either but I don’t think your run in will have done anything positive and goes against the Toyota guidelines in the manual.

I would avoid a dealer where you can't even get the level of service you want. As long as you're paying for it and it's part of the regular service items it shouldn't be a problem to do a full service every months if you so desire.

It's also weird that your dealer said anything about a rev limit for the run in period since it's not mentionned in the user manual, not a good look.

Well any dealer/authorized repairer should be able to only change the oil and filter on the recommended 1500 -3000 km run in period, if possible i would just go to a different one nearby if i were you, if no one else nearby then yeah, you also get other filters changed without much reason... and make the point of it in the service book as well. I think its just their politics to make more money rather than being unable really.

Wait was this an online booking or did you call or visited your dealer ???

BTW make sure you are getting THIS OIL, 08880-86294 best we can get in the Baltics officially through Toyota at the moment, up to spec, but really, ask your dealer what oil will they be using to fill up, without telling the part number first, compare, and then demand this oil, part number is for 5 liters, takes max 3 days to arrive, so make sure early.

0W20 AFE ILSAC GF-6A ,is the Name from TGMO list, but i don't they will be keeping around 208 liter drums of the stuff for the part code to differ.

It was through the app, which explains the very limited options. I'll give them a visit tomorrow I think to ask about the oil and make sure that they have it. Thanks for the part number!

That would be best, off course the online booking will be very limited and by the book !

The manual only says not to do sudden stops for the first 300km and for the first 1000km not to drive at extremely high speeds, not to floor it and keep speed varying. I've done all of these, and I agree that 4000rpm limit is a weird one, but the guy that sold me my GRY had GRY of his own so I though he knew what he was talking about.

Overall i dont think anything bad was said to you, better be carefull rather than flooring it from the get go, they can see all the data how the car has been used when it comes time to warranty and stuff, rather not risk it, if it is said to drive moderately for the first while, while the engine gets run in. Overall sound advice, i tried to be carefull up to the 1500 km mark, and since then have been giving it full throttle on the regular and 16 thousand km later it runs great.

Visited the dealer today. They changed my booked service to an "oil and filter" and said it's optional, but they recommend it. I also asked about the oil and they were gonna put in some other oil, not 08880-86294. Apparently and as @Armijs said - they do not stock it and will have to order. The price is insane (150€ for 5liters) and they were surprised about the price too and said they see why it's so expensive but did make a note that I wanted that specific oils and said it's fine. I'll see in two weeks how that oil change is gonna go. Thanks @Armijs for oil recommendation!

You are very welcome, just looking out for the best for our cars, I actually noted the car used less fuel on average with this oil as well.

We got some real snow today and as my break in period came to an end I thought I'd have some fun 😄 doing donuts in the snow is effortless in sport and all assists off. In Track mode car goes sideways very easily even with the slightest steering input. I think driving in winter on snow is more fun than on track use in the summer, but that's just my liking.

I was out in the snow for the first time in probably 8-10 years. It’s rare where I am. It drove great with tons of grip but when trying donuts it was just going sideways and I was a bit confused. I was in gravel which makes sense now 🙄🥺

Try it in track next time, it kicks the back out easily

I’m amazed how much grip mine has in the snow.. I’m on non studded and it has way more grip and predictability than my old 5 series with studs. I’ve been living in the Baltic’s for 8 years and I’ve finally found something to make me happy in January in February which are usually miserable 😀

Agreed. Went out last night on CrossClimate 2’s and was very impressed with how much grip it had including acceleration and stopping.

So today the tech guy from dealer called and said that the oil I asked is exactly the same oil as they would put in, but comes in 5 liter canister. They said that they have the big drums with the same oil in it. That is why there is a difference in part code and price (2x as expensive to buy 5 liters and even more expensive to buy in 1 liter bottles). He assured me that the spec is the same and oil is exactly the same and adviced to just put in the oils they recommend, cause it's the same and I would be paying for nothing. Having no way to check this claim I agreed to put that oil in and save some euros 🤷
