Hi all.
Had mine since 1st March and have to say, I’m absolutely loving it! Now, as the title says, I’m just wondering how the servicing works on these. I can’t seem to find anything anywhere that mentions needing a specialist technician so am I right to assume I can take it to any Toyota dealership and they won’t wreck it? I live in the south east. My nearest dealerships would be Brighton or Eastbourne. Anyone have any experience with these? I thought maybe if they have a demonstrator the technician might at least have a clue that these aren’t anywhere near a standard Yaris?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I called the Brighton one and the chap there assured me that his branch was indeed a GR centre so I shall take it there. Should have half a chance since they’ve at least seen one. Although as other people I’ve spoken to have said, changing an oil filter or air filter is just that regardless of model or even manufacturer. It’s only when you have a mechanical issue that you would probably need specialist training, make of that what you will. Regardless, I shall be using the Brighton one and hope for the best.

Good shout I'd rather take it to a dealer who has serviced loads of these rather than one who rarely sees them.

I suppose unless I ask them I won’t know if they’ve serviced loads (if any) of them. I shall have to bank on the fact that if they have one as a demo they’ve at least sold one or two and since had them serviced. The servicing side of things doesn’t seem particularly well organised unless like that link earlier suggests, any dealer genuinely can service one without issue.

The GR centre isn’t worth worrying about.

I went to get booked in for 6m health check at a ‘GR centre’ and I knew more about the service intervals than they did.

He tried to tell me It was every 10k miles not every 6k /12m

they even took a photocopy Of my service book for future reference as they didn’t know.

Probably doesn’t help that the ‘system’ and MyT app show it as 10,000 miles. 🙄

Is your GR centre also your local Toyota dealership or did you go there specifically? If it’s not your local one, do you now use your local one instead of the GR centre?

I have 4 Toyota dealers in my area all about the same distance away from me

I went to the one that was the ‘GR specialist’ and they didn’t have a clue so I took it to the next nearest Toyota garage for it’s 6m inspection and they were spot on to be fair so will be taking it there for it’s service next month.

I’m providing my own oil when it goes in

Are you using a special oil then? Or don’t trust them to use the correct grade? This is making me even more nervous now if they can’t even get the oil right…..

I changed the oils at 700 miles for Fuchs oil, one of the correct spec recommended by opie oils and just want to keep using that as I know it’s the right spec and I don’t trust the bulk oil dealers are using is right

The majority of dealers have been known to be using GF-5 instead of the correct spec, Even good dealers like RRG are very happy for people to take their own oil. My local ones aren't so a Toyota dealer only sees mine for recalls, and local specialist does everything else and I supply the oil

The Toyota dealer I asked wouldnt let me provide my own oil either - that was the dealer who said it’s every 10k and photocopied my service book for reference.

I asked if they would do an oil change at 6m so I got a free health check and a stamp on the book and said they would change the oil but wouldn’t stamp the book…

I haven’t asked the place I’m planning on taking it to yet but they’re not putting GF-5 in either way

For what it is worth, my local RRG had noted on the service sheet in big letters that the oil was a specific type, and that it could be found on the shelf of 'special order parts', and DO NOT USE BULK OIL.

So I'm hoping the tech could read!

Take it to a GR centre. Then there’s a small chance they won’t fill it up with castor oil and use 80 grit sandpaper to wipe it down after:

GR Centres just mean they have demonstrators. All technical staff receive the same training.

Yeomans Brighton is a GR centre. My car came from there and will be going back in June for its service.
Will you be asking to supply your own oil? Or just going with whatever they decide to stick in? Let me know how you get on either way please 🙂
