Hello everyone,
I was lucky enough to secure one of the additional 50 units that Toyota Spain announced on April 9th. By April 11th, it seemed all units had been allocated.
Interestingly, although I've always been the one more interested in cars, this time it was my younger brother, who owns one of the first and few Toyota GR86s imported to the Canary Islands a year ago, who influenced my decision. I've owned a couple of hot hatches, like the 2010 Golf R and the 2015 M135i, and a 2006 Cayman S. But driving my brother's GR86 over a long weekend really opened my eyes. It provided the same driving experience I had been seeking when I bought the Cayman five years ago while living in Switzerland, without the constant worry about oil levels and bore scoring issues. Eventually, I sold the Cayman because the constant monitoring became tiresome, despite my love for it and the memories we made.
Regarding my car, only the Base Spec was offered for this run of 50 units, available in three colors (white, red, black), with black being my preference. I'm somewhat relieved that only the Base Spec was available since I've been a father for two years now. With the intention to use the car daily, I anticipate less worry about wear and tear caused by my daughter's fun activities.
My brother's GR86 is the Touring Pack (equivalent to Premium in other markets) in Metallic Silver, which is undoubtedly a more attractive specification.
So, it's all good news. The car should be with me in about three weeks. My initial plan is to enjoy it on the open road and do some nice travels with it. Once I complete the break-in period and if there are advancements in resolving the oil pressure issue, I am contemplating participating in several track days throughout the year here in Spain.
