GR Yaris Rust

Are we all getting a little carried away regarding rust. We have a Toyota built from 2020, not a Datsun from the 70's. Car's these days don't tend to rust for fun.
Stating the obvious metal will rust.
As we have purchased a car that has been totally designed and built by Toyota. I would hope Toyota would rectify most issues regarding rust as long as the car's bodywork /chassis hasn't been modified in anyway.
If you drill into the bodywork or even underseal your car it would invalidate any warranty.

I asked my dealer here in Norway about undersealing, and they said it was completely OK with them, and they had no restrictions on what sort of undersealing I could use. It would not void my warranty. This might be different from country to country, but here in Norway Toyota actively recommends it, and many dealers offer undersealing services themselves. I went with LanoPro, since it doesn't lock rust in, but actively stops any rust from progressing.

As an added bonus the local LanoPro company offers life time warranty against rust damage on all treated areas when the car is newer than 4 years at the point of sealing, and all following treatments are followed.

My car had done one winter before undersealing, and the guy who did it actually said it looked perfect underneath, and better than some new cars look when they roll off the harbor after delivery.

Had the back seat out today for a speaker swap and some sound deadening. Pulled one of the rubber bungs out to take a look andโ€ฆ

The beginnings of rust around the edgesโ€ฆ have coated it in cavity wax and hoping for the best.

Intake out for Eventuri pipe replacement, so a chance to look at the engine bay and give it a clean. Just a heads up, daily driver, 24k miles, salty British roads:

Seems to be quite a bit along seam edges.

btw if anyone has good solution how to protect the wheel area in the future to avoid any future issues I'd love to hear what would work.

There is kevlar plates for rear sills that are used in Recce cars but not sure if that covers the exposed part. asked from one rally shop for details. If it helps, getting em.
Checked at TGR - recce cars have these parts also exposed so no good protection there

I would like to agree with you, and I have heard myself stating the same about. Earlier.

If I compare with the BMW I had before the Yaris it is a whole other game under the car, don't have the knowledge to explain how and why but it is starting to look brown here and there, although still not on metal frame/bars/floor.
The thread-starter here had rust on his fender already. We live in countries with full on winter and tons of salt on the roads, that if for sure a game changer to start with.

I am as surprised you
Same - have done VWs odd 100tkm each and didnt see any rust at all

I'm glad I've never had salt on the car. I still remember the times when we imported Nissan Skylines (about 15-20 years ago). They always said "not from England!" they're all rusty. Which was true at least with the cars I've seen...

Sorry, to see this, mate :(.

Doing what I can. Cleanup and used some rust treatment, then applied some anti corrosion wax (Bilt Hamber Dynax).

Think itโ€™s just one of those things, as an all year round daily driver, going to need to try and check regularly and keep on top of things. Going to try and get the wheels and wheel arch liners off in the next month, give it a proper clean and protect. Think thatโ€™s all I can do ๐Ÿ˜Š

Japanese built cars always seem to be rusty, the French built hybrids seem much better. I use a salt neutraliser on my gr4
Plus lanoguard twice and I donโ€™t really drive it if itโ€™s salty, Iโ€™ve seen a few that are looking less than best if you look in the nooks and crannies.

Btw rear fender design is similar to corolla. Maybe just less paint/protection to cause corrosion

This is really not good considering the age of the car! How will the fleet of GR Yaris look in 5 years of daily use..? Getting concerned as Ive seen things on my car as well

I should patch some rust protection on underside, tips and tricks for the process are welcome as the one I added previously does seem not to stick well, even though I thought i cleaned the surface well prio installation.

Is there any tricks to prep the surface so that the protection stuff would stick well?

easy would of course be to take it into rust protection service but they tend to invoice 500โ‚ฌ vs. 35โ‚ฌ for materials so thought to manage small fixes in home garage if needed..

UK car, 3.5y old, driven in winter and no previous treatment. I'd seen some rust when it was on ramps recently but still surprised quite how much there was. Also see last 2 photos of a coolant pipe at the bottom of the engine (behind the cover), rust with early pitting. The rust was removed and treated before painting with Hammerite,

Work was done by John at Precision Blasting near Matlock, Derbyshire. I can certainly recommend his service if you're needing the same.

Doesn't look to bad for a Jap car in UK winters really. The affected parts seem to be consumables (yes even suspension arms etc are considered consumables), hopefully the main body is not affected. These cars do seem to benefit from some protection if used year round, also the worst thing to do is to put a wet car away in an unheated garage, just in case anyone is doing that.

Good to know, looks like a great job, I said I'd do this from new myself, but never got round to it ๐Ÿ‘
