My car has always had a bit of cycling resonance around 2600 rpm and steady throttle, coinciding unfortunately with about 100 km/h in 6th, but it seems to be getting worse as the exhaust, bushes etc. loosen up. and thing like cables and clips bed-in.

It manifests itself as a buzz/hum from at least a couple of places in the rear half of the car - I suspect the number plate mount and some cables in the rear, under the side windows at least - and I'm wondering if this is a case of TADTS, or whether I should bother investigating, and perhaps mobilising the garage to look into things.

How is yours? Do you get the same kind of rhythmic thrum at around 2600 rpm?

Nope, no rattles, thrum, or anything untoward (that's after about 12k miles).

The boot spoiler has a bit of play, but some foam tape in the gap sorted that out.

The only rattle I ever have is my sunglasses in the holder that replaced the grip-handle on the driver's side if I don't put them in the right way round.

I have exactly the same thing - car did it since day 1 with delivery miles, now 700 miles driven and it's not getting better nor worse.

However I have no number plate mount, my license plates are attached with a double-sided foam tape to achieve a "frameless" look, so you can probably cross that off your list.

I personally don't worry about it as the car is loud as hell anyway, but I came from a Mk6 and then Mk7 Fiesta ST and both were loud and had buzzes and noises, so that might be just me being used to that sort of thing. 😛

Yeah mine does that too at 90-100km/h in 6th, like someone adding<=>removing some throttle every second. Might very well be what is actually happening, haven't bothered to log it...
I put it down as a quirk and put on some music lol, or I just drive more actively...

There's a thread on the other forum about this. I had it since day one. Some cars seem to have it, some don't. It's like a vibration at around 2800 - 3200 for mny people. Feels more pronounced in Sport mode. This leads many to beleive it's something to do with the drivetrain in the rear. I asked Toyota at first service and they came up with some nonsense about exhaust resonance as it comes on boost. I've heard there were some reports of some cars getting the bolts tightened on the halfshafts near the diff to help the issue but I'm not sure if this is the issue or not.

‘They all do that sir’. 😂

Mine does the same thing, a rhythmic hum that you only really notice at motorway speeds in 6th. I think it’s the car’s way of sending you to sleep to share its boredom and encouraging you to get off the motorway and attack some B roads. Possibly.

Do you mind sharing which foam tape you used please? Will want to buy some if mine has any rattles.

How did you convert the grip-handle to sunglass holder? :O

After swapping to a louder exhaust, I was getting a bit more cabin noise than I wanted. I Dynamatted the boot floor, reducing it to a nicer level, but around 2,500 rpm is also the range where most bass seems to be transmitted into the cabin. I’m putting it down to a feature of the car 😊

I had some double-sided sticky foam tape lying around and used that. Looks something like this:

But there's probably better stuff to use 🤷‍♂️

This is the glasses holder:

Mine 'resonates' as well at motorway speeds in 6th. It's a bit like a washing machine pump emptying the machine but quieter - I guess it it the AWD system, and it doesn't do it in 50/50. You always know what the car is doing though, thought the soundtrack.

Very few rattles at the moment - personally I think that people taking their cars to bits to get at something rattly is a bit daft.

I've only covered 600 miles and have no concerns. It could be the honeymoon time in my relationship or I have my music up too loud

Check the 2 little plastic nuts inside the rear arches on each side. They were stripped on my car and caused rattling from the rear bumper. My Dealer supplied me with 4 new ones and problem solved. ;)

Been exprimenting since I got back into the car after holiday.

Drive mode doesn't seem to make any difference, may just be coincidence/placebo.

I'm used to just shifting up/down to avoid it now, but it is still a little annoying.

I made the same experience. I got my car last week and have driven 600 km now. The rattle starts at around 90 km/h and has everytime the same time interval. "Rhytmic" as somebody wrote here. The fastest speed for me until now was around 130 km/h and the rattles were still there. Doesnt matter if i use sport or track mode.

I replaced the rattly numberplate surround which has indeed stopped the buzziness, but the main cycling thrum still remains.

I'm resigned to the fact it's just the interplay of 1st/2nd/3rd order harmonics caused by having an inherently out-of-balance 3-pot engine.

Ho - and quite literally - hum.

The rattles and vibrations come and go in mine so I've stopped worrying about them. Certainly not taking the dash off in search of the source. Mad.

Hello friends, new owner in Switzerland here. I have the same issue. Like a low frequency aural pulsing when cruising in sixth that appears to be most prominent around 2600 rpm (~105km) but also apparent at lower and higher speeds. Is there any update on what this is and any fix? Thanks.

I also have a "humming" sound at some points, have not followed it up though.

However the flywheel has been replaced on warranty on some GR Yaris and it was initiated by vibrations

A 3-cylinder with offset pistons has some funky secondary imbalance, maybe they manifest themselves as a resonance when they interfere with some other cyclic something in the driveline? I know I have the on-off resonance each lasting about 2s, but I haven't noticed it the last maybe year so probably just got used to it....

Yeah, no fix, I just stay out of 6th until I’m going at least 115 km/h
