GR86 Repairable?

Just succumbed to this on my 86. I've only done a couple of thousand miles but fear as it's close to the tyre wall it'll mean a new tyre even though there's only a slight loss of air.
It makes me remember many eons ago I was chatting to the local garage owner in the village as he was taking a tyre off a rim due to a puncture. There was a slight gash in the tyre wall, as he took it off an adjustable spanner fell out from the tyre. If I'd hadn't of witnessed it I would never have believed it!

Centre 3/4’s of the tyre is all most repairers will likely want to go near. Personally I’d bin it as distressing as it is, I’ve had similar happen in the past with a nearly new tyre and had to cough for a replacement, it’s not worth risking in my opinion.
 
That can be repaired using the hot vulcanising technique, but its finding somewhere to do it, I have the same problem on one of my fronts.
