GR86 Rear Screen Rattle

Has anyone else noticed a rattle from their rear screen? I’m a bit OCD with rattles and was determined to get to the source, so I took all the polystyrene inserts out of the boot (which I thought might have been the cause), folded the seats and laid in the back while my other half drove round our very bumpy local roads.

I’m convinced the rattle is coming from the rear screen and pushing against the roof lining made no difference. I’m not sure what can be done about it, other than turning the radio up!

Have you tried leaving something heavy in the boot?

I had an annoying rattle and that seemed to sort it out for me.

I’ve taken everything out of the boot including the large panel that forms the base of the boot. I also removed the boot lid inner panel to see if it was that. I’m convinced it’s the screen.
 
Mine seems to be similar and rattles in that sort of area but it’s intermittent, I also thought it was the polystyrene in the boot base.
 
A layer of sound deadening material on the boot floor resolved most of the unwanted noises coming out of the rear of my car (no pun intended).

I strongly recommend doing that and door sound deadening (including behind the internal door handles) to reduce 80-90% of annoying cabin noise.

This will result in the exhaust sound being less prominent inside, but if you're using the stock exhaust, you probably can't hear it anyway, and most aftermarket ones are loud enough as it is.
 
Did you press the screen at all whilst driving (as the passenger in the back I mean), to see if that stopped or changed the rattle in any way?

Yes, I’m going to insulate the boot floor before I put everything back 👍🏻

Yes, I did, it appeared to make it worse. I can mainly hear it at lower speeds on really bumpy roads, which seems like most roads these days!
 
I think it might be the rear trim clips holding up the roof lining , I pressed on mine and it made a difference.
 
I found the clips holding the rear bumper to undertray aren’t very tight. Tap the rear bumper and it rattles.

I took out the clips and added some foam number plate tape between the 2 surfaces. Rattle now gone.

Also, the dampers seem to be a bit clunky when cold. Goes away after a short drive.
 
Anybody made any progress on this rear rattle ?
Mine has returned very annoying !.
