GR86 Question for ex-MX5 drivers

Took the MX5 out today for the first time in weeks on a brief errand and realised how easy it is to drive smoothly especially from cold compared to the 86, I think it is down mainly to the throttle mapping differences.

I was toying with the idea of selling the MX5 and keeping the Cooper S but I have had some interest in the MINI without even listing it for sale anywhere, decisions, decisions.

I have a f56 minis cooper S with the works 210 kit and the GR86. They make a good two car garage mini is great fun and surprisingly practical. I also have an MR2 MK2. Mini and GR 86 good . GR86 and mx5 or MR2 bit too much overlap IMHO.

My Wife would go back to our old NC 25AE tomorrow! she cant understand why the 86 is so much more difficult to drive!
I have my dealer looking into the Throttle mapping situation.
It would help if the Hill start wasn't so useless!

Get the clutch spring changed out. 100% worth it.

I have read the Clutch pedal thread & changing the spring does indeed seem to help. But at 69 there is no way I am crawling about in the footwell, Its a Toyota issue, they are aware of the problem & I expect them to find a solution whether its the clutch or throttle mapping.

Good luck I hope you get it sorted, I can't see what they will do though. It's not an issue, it's a matter of opinion, there is technically no fault with your car and its operating as designed, but its good that they recognised it and are looking it into it. Realistically I don't know what the likelihood of get a solution endorsed, there is no other spring option available for the clutch unless they are willing to fit something aftermarket, nor a way for Toyota GB to modify or program the ECU, hence why the likes of sprint boosters, pedal commanders exist.

For an hours labour it would be worth it, hell I would do it for a cup of coffee and some biscuits if you were closer.

Thanks for the offer, indeed if we were closer I would make it worth you while to do the job.
Meanwhile the Tech at my dealer confirms he & his boss are looking into it, apparently I am not their only GR86 customer that has complained!
So fingers crossed.

Room in the back for our medium sized dog is an 86 benefit. I am in the fortunate position that my MX5 is mostly used for track days and I don't plan to get rid of it any time soon, so for now can enjoy both. Only had the GR for a month so still getting used to it but if I was going to go out for a half hour drive round the lanes, I would take the NC.
