GR Yaris (Gen 2) prospective GR Yaris owner here - in need of feedback

There’s no plumbed noise on the auto.
No offence, but are you absolutely positive on this?

Reason I ask is, when I returned the car from the test drive, I asked the seller if he know whether the 'speaker generated engine noise' can be disabled (as I already walked into the car having read that there is artificial noise - perhaps due to confirmation bias..) He consulted with one of his colleagues - and they told me 'yes'. Whether they didn't know if the auto doesn't have and that they've done it before for the manual, I can't tell

Can't find anything in the owner's manual about it - probably because its something that can only be done in the dealership

But regardless, if what I was hearing throughout the test drive was just genuine engine sound, I gotta say it was really impressive

I’m 100% sure. Owner for 12 months 23,000kms

It’s in the audio system manual.

Gen1 had to be done by OBD
Gen2 manual done in head unit settings
Gen2 Auto no settings as not fitted

Although stupid from a financial pov (buying new), its hard for me to explain. I just want to do it for once, start from 0km ;)
And maybe, just maybe if/when time comes to sell, it hasn't depreciated ridiculously. Even if it does, I ll make sure I ll enjoy it till then
A decent Integrale is still priced 50-60K
I fully undertand you there.. about the 0 Km
Regarding reselling value in the long term (in case that's consideration of yours)... imagine how much an integrale using a slush-box would worth

If you worry about resale values then you’re probably not using the car to its fullest. (Should add not aimed at you).

At one point a Delta sold for like 10k. If you're putting 23k km/yr like Robin, resale 30 yr on is fairly irrelevant ;) So if buying for driving lots, better to buy lightly used...

Owner for nearly 6 months and defo no pumped in sound here - better for it too I think.
This is crazy
The noise this thing makes is so rough/industrial
So it would seem that the dealership didn't know about this small detail (they said they can 'disable it')

Moving away from the fake engine noise (or lack of) - is the sound system on the Gen2 by JBL? Never bothered checking that, as I won't be using it much anyway

I know it will be your daily as well but sports cars should be more like a mistress than a wife, regularly thrashed without complaint and no need to keep in top condition as you replace whenever you want. Own and love the Yaris but don't get owned by it worrying about condition and value.
Not really worried about resale value as such
Keeping any car that I owned (even my 106 for which I paid 3000EUR over a decade ago) in tip top condition, is something that I m doing for myself
Imagine if I did that for a car that worth 3000EUR (which is what the nice 10-spoke lightweight alloys will cost me for the GRY..), then it would be hard to start now not to care as much :D

That doesn't mean that I won't enjoy it to the max either, but always will care to do it properly, without senselessly thrashing it (as if it was a rental or a test drive). I guess it's just the way I am. Not just about cars, but generally anything that I care for

Maybe this is also influenced from the fact that so far I never had this luxury >> "...as you replace whenever you want"
(if it broke, then I would have no car at all)

It’s worth chatting to @Sekred he shares your attention to the finer details.
Thanks! Will do when the time comes
Currently trying to find a manual one for a test drive, just to get a feel (although I don't think I ll change my mind for the auto though, for the reasons I mentioned - it's time to move on, embrace technology for once)

I ve got a whole lot more of paranoid-type questions o_O
Like, my garage (platform) has like an 8% inclination when fully elevated
I have noticed that for the MINI, when having a cold start with it facing even slightly upwards, there was more 'unwanted' engine noise. Not like the 'death rattle' which was the known achilles for that motor, but more like as if oil/lubrication took a second or so more. Maybe that was just an R56 trait, I don't know if it would even matter with the GRY (or any other car). So I was like half retracting the platform so that it levels up (no inclination) prior starting the car

I really have a thing even with such smaller details. I know I ll probably die younger with all this self-induced anxiety about things. But I can't help it

Not sure if the JBL system is standard in the German market. In Sweden it was previously (only one version available with all options), but now that the MY2026 is out, there is a more basic version available too without JBL, parking sensors etc. here in Sweden. So it depends on your market.

Thanks, I ll clarify
Although the test drive did seem to have all extras e.g. parking sensors
When I asked if I can drop the heated seat and heated steering wheel options - he was like no - it comes as is
That's the one thing that surprised me about this car - its the least configurable one I ve prob ever come across

Just have a look at the German GRY price list to get familiar with the versions in your market. Then you'll easily understand what options are standard and if you have anything too choose from or not (apart from the color of course).
JBL system would be easy to spot during a test drive, the JBL logo's are visible on the tweeters in the a-pillars.
