Great ying and yang debate.

PPF isn’t going to help when a sleepy driver kicks up hardcore from the centre verge of a motorway, so its not a cure all.

So you guys justifying £4k of PPF against a respray have to accept that spray work will sometimes be required.

its that old arguement, pay £30 a month pet cover, or save £30 a month for pet problems, 6 of one half a dozen of the other.

Out of interest, is PPF added to insurance, as in stolen car or crashed car, will an insurer pick up cost of body repair AND replacement PPF, or pay car value plus PPF if stolen?

The risk of colour matching later is what made me PPF at least the high risk areas. I am keeping this car, unlike some who treat it as the next toy to let go in 3 yrs and it be someone else's problem. I very nearly didn't and would accept the patina. But the paint is so soft I had to do something. And my PPF didn't cost nowhere near 4k. Going forward as I've said it will see a wash when I can but will be driven daily. I still expect to pick up the odd mark.

My insurer said they were happy for me to add PPF (no change to premium), but wouldn't cover the costs of replacing it if a panel/the car were damaged/stolen&replaced respectively.

Edit - doh this was meant to be a reply to @Chris Mc post 2 above

I do wonder what would be 3rd party's insurance like if the claim was made against them. Are insurers likely to agree to replace PPF?
I would hope so...

Picked up mine today after having it's full wrap. Can now finally actually drive the thing 😄

So...

Another "plus" for PPF.

My PPF is lifting in a few areas, rang my detailer who is obviously shocked and said they will replace it free of charge. This means I will be without my car once again for a minimum of 2 days as they will have to re-do the PPF... and then coat the PPF.

I'm actually kinda hoping that they might say they'll just give me a refund. When I bring it in to them because I really don't care that much about PPF.

But it would be a refund of around £420.

But yeah another plus for PPF.

I wouldn't do it again. I actually regret doing a new car detail now. Wish I'd just spent the £2.5k and got it wrapped in green, and coated. Live and learn.

I've attached 2 photos, one of the major area of lift. And then there are about 10 little lifts like the second picture.

Yeah that's not ideal. But... what's to say the green wrap wouldn't lift? You say PPF is not worth it,but wrapping is the same and suffers the same issues, the only difference is ones coloured the other is clear.

Wow that's shocking! I never had any issues with a wrap.

Mines going back to detailer next week but not for lifting. One of the mirrors he wasn't totally happy with so wants to do it again. The plan says to do it one way but he wasn't happy with it. The rest of it unless you look at corners it's hard to tell it has it.

He asked how the ceramic I provided was as it flashed so fast he was dubious about it but it beads really well in fairness. Whether it actually last 5yrs is another thing.

Hi Rage, that's probably mine. What was this posted on? I'm keen to have a look.
VinylOne Instagram story a few days ago. It would be great to hear your thoughts on your experience once you get the car back as that is one the places I was thinking of going to, what are you getting done?

There was another one up over the weekend and it looked incredible in the background, but looks like it has gone over the 24 hours

Hi Rage, I'm not getting a full wrap, just the front impact areas and the side skirts. I've only done 200 miles and already noticed a minute stone chip in the front bumper which convinced me to get PPF. I'll hopefully pick it up this week so I'll let you know.

Awesome, that’s exactly what I’m after too, but I will get a ceramic coating on the rest and PPF roof too. How long does it take?

If you’re happy to share your quote that would be much appreciated. If not, no worries. Looking forward to hearing your reviews the car looks awesome.

Interesting video here of a GR86 being PPF and ceramic coated. Lot of work there and sharp edges / knifes near the paint work - plenty of opportunity for things to go wrong ! Still can't make-up my mind !
Taggy

Not sure if everyone is the same, but the templates for the PPF were lazer cut for my car. No Stanley knives were near the paint work 😁
