So, never really been keen on black wheels.
After a visit to a body shop yesterday, will be getting the brake Calipers painted Red when they can fit me in, which will hopefully lift the standard Calipers, and improve the appearance somewhat.
My car is silver. So, my question is….. what colour wheel would you go for? I am thinking a smoked/shadow Crome.
Sat over red Calipers thinking it will look good.
I know colour is very personal, but interested to hear what other people would go for.

I have a silver car too and was planning on changing mine to match the BRZ before I took delivery. But the black grew on me so I never changed in the end.

Black is harder to keep clean though

I had a thunder grey T Sport and had the wheel specialists at Leeds do the wheels to smokey chrome. They looked superb and am very tempted to take my GRY to them and have the black wheels done that colour.
I wish I could have those exact wheels on the GRY.
I can't look at these pictures hung up in my garage without regretting selling it. My heart sinks just posting them. I still think it is a lovely shaped coupe. 13 yrs old and 100k but still immaculate when it went. Took it to a toyota specialist to change the lift bolts and he shouted at me as I entered the yard "that engine is immaculate". It should have been as he had looked after it for 10 years. Very light surface rust underneith. Bonet resprayed once at about 10 years old. Other than that not a mark in and out. What a fool I was to sell it for no reason at all. That's why I will need to be desperate to let the unique GRY go and let the regrets start all over again. Lesson learnt: just because you can afford a new car it doesn't mean you should sell your current car. I should have kept it as my daily about town car and not bought the AygoX to do that. Must go as I am about to cry.

On my GT86 I had the black/diamond cut OEM wheels recoloured in shadow chrome and it looked cracking on a white car. I reckon that would suit silver just as well. Would probably look similar to the BRZ colour; I also prefer that colour, wish that had been an option given the wheels are otherwise identical I think.

Always loved the T Sport, especially in Thunder Grey

And agree with you, thats why i am keeping my 2008 Leon FR. Nothing that special perhaps, but I have had it from new with full SEAT SH , it goes well and still looks cracking and different IMO. Had it serviced in March and I told the tech I liked the look of the new Cupra Leon, don't do it was his answer, yours is better in almost everyway. The very low PX price nailed it for me, so its staying (although GF thinks I am loopy :ROFLMAO:)

What sort of price are you looking at to have them painted, and how does the longevity compare to buying new wheels in the colour you like?

That’s a good point. I do actually like the wheels on the GR, so quite happy just to get the colour changed. But yes, will look at the options of buying a new set if I can find a set that ticks all the boxes.
Going to get a price to get them painted shortly, so will give me a yard stick to go with.

A local company to me with a good reputation was £100 a wheel. Including removing and refitting tyres etc.

£400 is decent. Although selling the wheels and buying some new ones probably wouldn't be much different. It really depends whether painted ones will last as well as new wheels. I've no idea if the job is as good as factory made wheels.

I can't believe they've made such a beautiful car and given us only one choice of wheel colour, regardless of what colour car we choose.

Maybe powder coating would last well? But I have no idea to be fair.

Perhaps worth buying new wheels and keeping the originals for if you wanted to return to standard.

Hi all I was thinking of doing this and had two quotes one at £260 and one at 300 that me taking the wheels off and delivering. They were removing and refitting the Tyres. I am near Southampton.

Just had a quote from Wheel Genie in Huntingdon, who I have used previously, and do a first class job.
£330 plus vat, so £396, that’s for same day dropping car off first thing and collecting at 5pm.
the full acid strip etc and re balancing tyres etc. that is for powder coating.
I’m sure I paid more than that a few years ago, so seems reasonable.
So, just got to decide whether to go for a re-paint, or a new set and keep existing set as spares.

Respectfully, I'm not sure I agree.

The wheels look decent enough and suit all the available paint colours.

It's nice in this day and age to be able to order a car without worrying about specifying a wheel type/colour out of various options, with the commensurate looks/resale value/additional cost concerns.

Owners have the choice to change the colour or type of wheels via aftermarket routes anyway, should they wish to do so.

I agree. I originally wanted silver wheels but the black still looks good. So it was decision taken away from me.

Quite refreshing to be able to buy a car without spending many thousands on all the upgrades that should have been standard.

My brother has a new 3 series touring. He can pay a fee to turn on the heated seats that are already there! Or remap it to unleash an extra 100hp that is his engine is already capable of! Crazy!

No problem.

But 'decent enough' doesn't match up to a car that looks so much better than 'decent enough'.

There didn't have to be different sized or style wheels, just an extra colour (eg, silver) would have been nice. One choice to make would hardly have over-taxed our brains, and having silver or black wheels wouldn't make a noticeable difference to resale values.

Of course, but that's extra money when it didn't have to be necessary.

I agree on the plethora of upgrades that are often optional. It's more economical for a manufacturer just to put the upgrades on all cars, so the end user doesn't have to pay through the nose for each one. It's my opinion on wheels, nothing else, and wouldn't have been much effort for the manufacturer. The black wheels go better with some colours than others.

Yep, it would be better if that was standard.
