40 years and countingAudi got far with their group B marketing
Mate and I picked up an early S6 with the 4.2 V8 for almost lunch money. It was a statutory write off (flooded) and couldn't be registered so we were going to sling the driveline into our spare xr4 (st150) shell which was also a stat write off. The car itself was in great condition really, just wet electrical gremlins. Idea was either front engine awd or mid engine rwd the xr4. Bloody thing wouldn't fit. Trust me I tried. So very tried. So we fixed the intermittent electrical issues for driving gutted it and threw it on the track to do some sprints with new tyres and bushes and an old race seat and harness. Removed most of the exhaust. You know the $5 track car option. You couldn't hear the engine for the tyre squeal, if it wasn't spinning the tyres up looking for traction it was understeering in, through and out of the corners. Great fun but very SLOW. Did maybe 4 days and someone offered us good money for it so bye.Understeering bloaty pile of soulless shite.
Don’t get me started on the Audi…

One is a homologation special, the other one a part bin special. The only reason the A1 has value is rarity, which is easier to bring about than engineering."When the Toyota is crushed into a small square of recyclable gumph, it will be the A1 that will stand the test of posterity, and is preserved as an automotive Icon for what it stands for and how good it was a full decade before Toyota caught up. For that reason it gets my vote and my cash if I could buy either."
My favourite comment.
