As title really. Are you?

I've seen several posts on this forum about people being told they'll need to wait months for a windscreen repair. My car had a minor incident at the end of March, when someone backed into it while it was at a Toyota dealer, which involved the front wing being replaced (only a minor dent, but it was replaced as the car was brand new). That took 3-4 weeks to source, and meant I ended up being without the car for 2.5 months for some incredibly minor damage. And I've just read the update on poor @Moonballs car, who has had a fairly major smash, but nothing that isn't totally repairable - but they are now being fobbed off regarding repairers not being able to source parts.

This has got me thinking that this could be an ongoing concern, and to be honest, it's not something I'd ever even thought about properly until I experienced it. Lovely as this car is, it's still a mass produced Toyota, not a bespoke run out special, so I would expect to be totally able to order overnight parts from Japan, yo. But as we already know, it's a rare car in the UK and it seems like parts might be equally rare as a result.

Do we think this might be a prevalent problem, or is this just something that is affecting all carmakers as a result of ongoing global supply chain issues? Or could it just be because the car is "new" and perhaps dealers might start stocking more parts going foward?

I am a little worried - took nearly 2 months to get my windscreen replaced. However, when my spoiler needed replacing - Toyota had a replacement available and sent for next day delivery.
Further cars coming to the market in 2023 hopefully means more spares available for us all.

The whole global supply chain issue I see as an excuse. It should all be more or less back to normal now. It is a concern but hopefully they'll be holding more in the UK or at least in Europe where applicable soon and sort of explains the insurance cost. Someone bumps into one and it's a knock on effect. Oddly the Z4 M was a rare car and really expensive for parts yet was cheap. Was half the cost of the M3 that had the same engine and was less rare. Parts could be ordered from Japan but you shouldn't have to and postage is eye wateringly expensive at the moment.

In my case the impression I have currently is that it's not a profitable job to the repairer. Long lead times and many unknowns. Some places refused simply as the gr was not listed in there systems meaning information such as dimensions and repair methods are just as troublesome as the parts themselves.

I'll be going into branch tomorrow to confirm if parts can be ordered or it's the repairers not wanting a job. Either way both outcomes are terrible in my case.

It would be a real shame if this level of damage ends up as a write off

Unfortunately, it seems that waiting on parts will be something we will have to get used to. Something that didn’t even cross my mind.

I ordered my windscreen on around May 7th, it won’t arrive until nearly 3 months later until Jul 27. It wasn’t the first they replaced so clearly they don’t see it as economical ordering a few for stock, due to low numbers.

Likewise, I’ve had the GR gear knob ordered from Toyota which was meant to arrive end of March 😂. No update on that at all apart from they’ve chased Toyota HQ and they’ll let me know when it arrives.

Never realised this would be a problem but it makes it a bit less disappointing that I never bought one. I had a pheasant that smashed one of my air intake ducts on my brand new BMW 230i. I ordered the part and I got it within 2 days. And this is a new shape 2 series which, when this happened last October, had only been out about 8 months.

Not worried at all, plenty of other things in the world to be concerned about. It's a brand new car, as much as it shares some underpinnings of the old car its not a facelift, Toyota won't have a full inventory of spares yet and won't do for a while.

Absolutely this. I tend not to worry about things I can't do anything about ... And right now I don't even need any parts, so definitely not a concern until something happens.

It is a shit sandwich of a situation for @Moonballs though. I'd be sad for a couple of days if mine was written off ...but I love an excuse to buy a new car so I'd be over it pretty quickly :)

Its not just Toyota, I have a neighbour thats having to wait 3 months for a new rear bumper for her Mini, the Garage are blaming Brexit!

This is what I'm hoping, and that we've just been unlucky enough to need parts before the model is even a year old.

I have a 19 year old Alfa and a 12 year old Maserati. You want to try getting parts for those! Quite a number are already NLA! I reckon we’ll be fine with these GR86’s fairly soon, although currently it seems a bit early for reliable parts supply.
