I like how Americans try to make it scientific etc but it was pretty obvious from the start that a decent baffle plate with vertical trap doors would help. I still think a larger pan on top would be beneficial however.

I do hope this works though and becomes available. The donation is more to help with R&D than anything else. Cadwell park is my local track and it is murder on a car physically.

An evening session there is £100 and is only 30 minutes drive so would be nice to take the GR86 for a little spirited drive on track during an evening without the worry of blowing it up.
 
Possibly interesting for people worried about this issue: I found this whilst looking through the user manual yesterday, Toyota seems to recommend using 5w30 oil “if the vehicle is operated at high speeds or under high load conditions”.
0w-20 was selected for emissions reasons and cold starts (as you’d expect).

I wasn't sure if that was a recommendation for the GR86, or just a generic description of what the figures mean. I'd be tempted by 0W-30 just reading that, but that doesn't appear to be a supported grade at all.
 
My old GT-Four is 10w40 but on track I run 10w50. It is pretty much the go to thing to go up a weight on the hot side when tracking unless it is something exotic which will be already running the higher grade.
 


Another video from 900BRZ. The key takeaway for me is that a 1-1.25 quart (~0.95-1.2L) overfill of oil stabilised the oil pressure. This was in combination with a baffle, but it's not clear whether a baffle would be needed to still see the benefit on a track. GR Cup cars are running a 1L overfill as well. From looking on other forums overfilling the oil up to 0.45L doesn't cause any issues, but may reduce the risk of pressure drops.
 
This is a road car, not a track car, despite some advertising. If you take it to a track and drive it on the edge for long periods, these are not standard road conditions, if it then blows up, you shouldn’t be compensated by Toyota.

it is a product of Toyota Gazoo Racing, and although I agree its not a track car or race car, we arn't buying a standard 1.4 corolla here, it is a car I would love to someday try out on track. But I would like to think your opinion doesn't mirror Toyota.
 
There's no definition of a track car, but from the marketing you should be able to take it on track in standard form without issue for a standard 15min stint.

A proper track car would happily spend an hour out on track at full speed, I doubt the GR86 would be too happy with it, it should be fine tho but toyota wouldn't like it.
 
Considering there's a prominent button in the car with "track" written on it for the dedicated track mode, you'd think that they're expecting people to take it to the track at some point and apply warranty coverage accordingly. Along with all of the marketing showing it being used on tracks. In the US they give you a free track day with the car and a NASA membership. I wouldn't expect them to cover it if you decide to enter it in a racing series, but a few laps on a track shouldn't be enough to break it with no recourse.

What a load of rubbish. Sounds like you have a bee in your bonnet about track days, maybe you should try one? Track days are for road cars not race cars. Toyota will have developed this car to be able to cope with the harshest of conditions (not least to manage the grip produced by its own tyres). Thats track driving and extremes of temperatures. I wrote Toyota following the issues that have been seen and they stated that the warranty would be upheld for cars driven on track days however modifications would void the warranty *obviously*.

Would love to hear more about this correspondence with Toyota on their wording for this?
The warranty terms here, to me, suggest it wouldn't be covered https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners/Toyota-warranty (point 15 of the ts&cs)

The GR Yaris overrules all of that by having a section on the warranty page of their website claiming it's specifically covered. No word on the GR86 though.

I think Toyota would struggle to defend not covering track use under their warranty. The car has a driving mode called "Track". The car is advertised being used on track and drifting.

and in the US the red is called 'Track bRed' so they do allude to track usage/development in various ways.
 
Agree on both of those, but would be good to hear what Toyota GB have to say on track use. I might contact them on it too actually.

How would Toyota know it would have blown up on track anyway unless you told them? You could be coming out hard on the right hander coming out of junction 27 on the M25 to join the M11 and it went pop there ;).
 
So (at least) six track days later and oil starvation becuase of the stock pickup/pan hasn't killed the engine? A poorly designed aftermarket baffle did.

Sir, the on board data logger shows you hitting 7000rpm in 3,4,5 gears, hard on the brakes, down to 3rd gear a left hand turn, upto 4 gear and a double right turn. Which road was you on again when this happened? 🤣

GR86 has been deliverd on 215 wide street tires. But if you put very wide tires or high grip slick tires on it. I think the car is not develop for that.
