GR86 Next-Gen Toyota GR86 To Get 300-Hp Plus Turbocharged Hybrid

Various auto mags have been predicting this ever since Toyota ran a G16E-GTS equipped GR86 in Japan in some cup competitions back in 2022. Probably earlier, too.

I don't personally see it happening for a while still, and not 100% convinced it fits the 86 design ethos. Given the price of the MK2 Yaris it wouldn't be cheap, either.

I'm 95% confident that they'll never release a better version.

Any future versions will have all the things I hate about new cars. If hydrogen takes off in this country there might be a non-ev but that'll be a stretch, and even then it'll be constantly beeping and making steering / brake inputs thinking it knows how to drive better than the driver.

The future's bright!

Yeah it's doubtful, had this throughout the life of the old car. When asked about it Tetsuya Tadas re response was something along the lines of; more power means bigger brakes, heavy duty drivetrain, bigger wheels and tyres, it goes against what these cars are about. If you want that then Toyota sell something called a Supra.

Judging by how much effort it took to make sema car, I can’t see this being released at all. Good halo car for markets where the gr86/brz is still sold, mind

It also wouldn’t sell here either unless the shell is modified to the new pedestrian legislation.

I have no idea what they are but I can guess it is another way to introduce another warning light/sound in new cars!
