Hello everyone, I have a GR Corolla with all the bolt ons and ECUtek. I am looking to get upgraded valve springs and Kelford A cams. What’s the long term longevity of upgrading the valve springs and who has the most miles on them? I thought of posting in the Yaris subforum since you guys have had the engine for longer :)

I have always loved Kelford cams. I have used one set of Kelford for 120,000 miles on my STI with zero problems :)

Not sure if you can tune in Kelford A cams with ECUTEK.

Was speaking with another GR owner last week who said he had friend who had major issues at 2 x well known UK tuners.
Apparently the car ran like a bag of spanners so do your homework.

Been running Kelford A cams on mine for 18 months (Syvecs management), always driven hard, track days/Nürburgring etc. and zero issues.

From what I have heard here in Aus, many lads are struggling to get decent outcomes with ECUTEK. It is still in it's infancy and there are also logging issues with it that is not a software limitation, meaning a tuner needs to risk it for the biscuit...which I would wager many would not without a liability waiver from the owner.

Hello all ,
I'm wondering if anyone has watched .
Denstoj Auto Centre on YT well worth watching as they have just upgraded a GR Ralley.
They have the results from the Kelford A cams and the ECUtek + a few other mods .
They have allso developed their own Rocker retainers, https//denstoj.com au I genuinely think these should come with all Kelford Cam /spring kits.

Regards Russ.....🙏

Yes, Ben from Benchmark Solutions (incredibly knowledgeable; check his appearances on HP Academy) explains the limitations very diplomatically. However, what really needs to be highlighted are the hardware-related logging limitations, which are basically the amount of reliable data points over time the factory ECU tells ECUTEK so that the tuner can make decisions on where parameters sit to make more power. Less information = greater risk.

Yes agree ,thanks for that I will go and have a look.

With respect to mapping I wouldn't have a clue but as you say in this video I watched he did state Motec/Syvecs is the way, but he stated as you say it was a good map but your at the mercy of what can be logged.
As an engineer myself
I was more impressed with their rocker retainer design I think they have 2 sets designed, one for stock cams/ Kelford A , these help with over rev or a money shift.
A set of solid rocker retainers for people making high power/boost and 9000 rpm fully forged built engines, obviously more workskill required to fit these .

In other topic about hybrid turbo Diyman25 posted this video.

Should be gcg28R turbo using custom ecutek map…seems great to me.

I still chose the hydraulic retainer kit for my forge build as I won't be pushing past 500hp to keep drivability. The forging is a preventative measure for variables the Motec management can't mitigate in time.

I think they should be offered with every cam kit, I followed their earlier posts on YT, they even sent a set to Fensport after their issue.
I'm trying not to mod this car, it's quick enough for my purposes, but like to belt and brace things, I think a set of their hydraulic retainers, along with
Lamspeed baffles , I've already order Phil @ Rotheli racings new Aluminium sump which works
with the Lamspeed baffles and adds 1. 5 litres of oil to the mix.
Sounds a great build and well thought out👍

One last question, my local shop works on a lot of SR20, RV26, K24, etc inline engines and does head work on them. Can I trust that shop to put in Kelford A cams and valve springs on my engine? They said they can put in the valvesprings without taking off the heads by pressurizing the cylinders. Any peculiarities with the 3 cylinder they should know about when it comes to head work? Thanks!

It can be done with the head attached.
