GR Yaris JB4 box

I have this product and have been running it for three months. I can tell you that this product is not perfect and there are many problems that cannot be solved effectively. Simply put, it is rubbish, so I decided to sell it.
It's definitely not an install and forget product as is. It's a tool for own control, and one that improves with community experience. If it's not too late you are welcome to share you issues, maybe other users can help here.

Would surely be interested on hearing what issues there has been.
No tuning solution is perfect, expect maybe aftermarket custom setup with Motec or Syvecs, set up by experienced people.
I used JB4 with my VW few years back and it always requires some setup from the user to get it working for your vehicle, fuel etc. It was working fine, although the DSG was not very happy if too much torque was requested (started slipping, eventually). Went then to get a custom engine and transmission setup to remove any possible transmission issues in the future. From short experience it seems to work well for "mild" tunes, but if pushed too much it can create issues, depending on setup, vehicle, etc.

As all tunes push the boundaries, they seldom work 100% unless taken into account few things.
The custom mapping worked flawlessly for many years (did few quarter mile / mile pulls)... until next owner said he had gotten the CEL light on, likely from pushing the car WOT for too long. Car in such is a system, where if you change one part, it likely affects to other parts somehow.
In this regard you always have to know what you change, and what are the possible causes.

No matter what map mode is running
It's annoying enough that the trouble lights go on all the time
Not to mention a lot of parameters he can't get a signal
As far as I'm concerned this is just an imperfect experimental product

Well it actually is experimental, it's still in BETA on the website.
It has a lot more signals then every other box out there, which have no easy logging...
JB4 is community based. If you don't have basic tuning experience or know how to use it, you can ask for help, here or directly from bms and Terry Burger, [email protected]

First question: did you install the latest firmware and do you have option 6 activated for the Yaris?
Second: what mods do you have?
Three: are you ok with logging and making own maps? That is where the USP lies with JB4, otherwise other options are 'easier', some are pretty bad, some will make maps for you (but without proper log feedback?) and some are more readily developed for sure but ultimately generic.

Haha...... I think the fact that there are more signals than other boxes is an international joke, I can't even read the most basic information needed to adjust the vehicle, let alone customize the PIDS, I have to use OBDLINK to grab the signal to facilitate the adjustment of the vehicle module, and I have sent them a message about asking for help. The answer I got was that they could not use it, and they had to wait until they had a car to study how to solve it. As for such a reply, I felt that the product itself was rubbish. For immature and experimental products, frankly speaking, it should not be sold. Still doesn't change the fact that JB4 equals garbage on GR YARIS.

Pulling up this on my phone in 5 seconds isn't a garbage to me...

That said, it isn't an OBD reader or a replacement for Techstream , nor holds a candle to a standalone ECU...

You can bias the boost signal, MAF signal and soon the WG duty with 500rpm intervals in map6. Adjust various safeties. All against above data. In various circumstances. At will, on the fly. That's what the JB4 is about.

Obviously you misunderstand the real use of ecu, can adjust the data at any time does not mean that this is a successful product, any ecu on the market can do, really mature and not junk products, should not be at any time on the engine failure light, and should be durable, I said jb4 has a lot of data about Toyota cars can not be read, this is itself a joke, Just like the pictures you post and the attempts to defend this product are a joke and not worth mentioning in the eyes of the insider.

I'm offering my help and try to realign your expectations of the actual product you bought, but you can remain in your already fixed opinion and sell the jb4 to someone who understands what they bought.

PS: AFAIK all tuning boxes at some point trigger ECU light if you are too aggresive with your setup, the JB4 at least has inbuilt logging data (with real boost data) to see what happened unlike most others.

not sure what is your point or issue but jb4 is not an ecu.

Question for people with JB4 experience:

I bought a second hand JB4 when I had a BMW M135i. I never used it but is it possible to flash it and use on my Yaris? Not sure I will but keen to know if its possible.
It seems like torque flattens off or even drops a little from 5500 to 7000rpm and would likely use it for data logging and maybe run E30 mix of fuel.
Thanks in advance

with proper fw and wiring I cannot se why it wouldn't work. maybe best to consult the product manufacturer?

To answer in short, no. Sell it and buy the one for Yaris. :)

@Onehp, did the part throttle issues get sorted with newer firmware? at least from what you tested before replacing the GR.😁
currently interested in the JB4, but not yet decided to pull the trigger.

Didn’t have issues once the ecu was learned properly and with the warming compensation in JB4 turned off (because the ecu already does this), except intermittent hesitancy 1st to 2nd gear. The latter didn't happen often enough to bother me a lot and not even sure it was the JB4, the mk1 OEM ecu isn't exactly known for its consistency and for me one of the advantages often overlooked to go for a mk2 without saying that makes it worth it...
The JB4 isn't perfect and it's working on top of an imperfect ecu, but it alowed me at least to have some control on what's going on and adjust to my individual ecu and mods, it's not a plug in and enjoy solution. Ecutek also has issues, even Syvecs has its quirks and needs a lot of tuning time if you're a perfectionist. Some of the more advanced boxes may still be better solution if not willing to tinker oneself, I always advice to keep torque increase moderate.

Anyway, I enjoyed my jb4 but go in with your eyes open with realistic expectations.

There is new alpha version (GR_8.HEX) for jb4 available in app - fixes MAF bug(?) which in real life takes out the jerkiness on mid throttle.
The car feels and rides now completely as stock (smoothness) which is a great improvement.
