GR Yaris is anyone able to post/reply at the other forum?

The good thing about this kinda stuff is that it's all known in some way, so even if someone had to 'rediscover' things about the car, at least we know things exist... it does say in their TOS about directly copying content, so you know.. don't do that because that could in theory put this forum at risk if they got litigious... but any information about the car itself is straight fact, so you know... they can't own that.

Put another way, anything factual about the car could be re-written.
There is nothing whatsoever on that forum that can’t be reanswered here, probably by the same people. For example, @MagnusT copy/pasted all of his very useful content, such as the mirror mod*, to here when this forum started.

*I literally picked this as an example as I did the mirror mod very soon after, there are many other very useful posts/guides from many owners that were copied across!

In case you missed it though: https://www.gr-zoo.com/threads/comp...-the-rearview-mirror-quite-a-bit-further.225/

I tried reading the terms of use of VS and quickly decided I won't be making new threads/content there.... But whatever those say, as long as the same person repost their own content, it seems very stark that a forum hoster can make any claims on that...

When I read the new TOS, which I think everyone must have signed at this point, anything posted to them becomes their content.... their copyright. I'd have to double check, since I've not delved at that TOS in a while... but it's probably not worth risking the zoo to find out, realistically they aren't going to come after individual posters, but they would more likely come after the forum itself.

As I say, everything that has been written is effectively fact, there's no real opinion especially in the useful threads about how the car is put together, but I think it's a bad idea to straight copy and paste posts.

They can't have it both ways. Either they claim ownership of the content and any liability stemming from it, in which case they're a publisher, or they are simply a distributor and offload any liability for defamation etc. onto posters. This stuff all has extensive precedent as far as online forums, social media etc. is concerned.

I bet if you defamed someone on a VS forum they would *not* be lining up their lawyers to defend your post...

IANAL but I've owned, managed and moderated enough online stuff over the last 30-odd years to know the basics.

There is no way they can stop you reposting your own stuff elsewhere, but it would be amusing to see them try. Their T&Cs do clearly state you can't do that with other people's posts without their permission though.

The stench coming off them is overwhelming and I for one have been staying well away since they seem to ruin everything they touch.

They could still largely sue the zoo into oblivion well before actual legality was tested though, what I'm suggesting is a defensive measure.

The only assets the zoo really has is itself as well, so like they could use that to attempt to take over ownership.

What they do is protect 'their content'. Hence why they don't delete you. Or allow you to edit much. They have no interest in protecting users, that kinda stuff is seen as a TOS violation under their terms I think.

Basically you are likely right but we cannot afford to find out. That's why I'm suggesting extreme caution.

Just use that rare thing called common sense - we have always asked you don't copy & paste from the other forum. If we see someone doing this, then we'll need to step in and remove it.

You or I retain copyright on anything we contribute though. There is no contract between us and VS which would give them ownership of it as there would be in a commercial or employment scenario, and nor is there any attempt to have you waive those rights in their T&Cs, they are inalienable in this context.

Many of the T&C statements around content use are to avoid you claiming they are using YOUR copyrighted work without authorisation, not any claim in the other direction.
