GR86 Interior quality

That says more about the excellent qualities and value of the Dacias, if anything!
Before I bought the AygoX I looked seriously at the Dacia Stepway SUV because of the bigger boot for the dog and was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I probably looked down a little at Dacia but not any more. The Dacia owners could be the more canny owners around. Yes it is a budget car at £15k but what a lot you get and very well put together. An extra £500 got the duel fuel versions and there are 3 stations within 3 mile of me selling LPG. I still see them and think should I have got one as my daily. I wouldn't knock them since having a good look at one. It is actually a new model Clio with a different shell on it built in the Renault factory. I like watching Bob Flavin and he gave a glowing report on it saying why would you not buy one. We are all paying too much for cars and is easy to forget that there are some very good cars about at realistic prices if only we would give them a go.

I think its great except the windscreen wipe intensity rotaty thing is set up backwards on mine, wipes less when you turn it higher? Maybe I should see it as wipe period rather than rain intensity?
THIS!!
It's something that I've tried to work out since the first time I drove it in the rain (the first drive and pretty much every subsequent drive...). You'd think that turning the dial up would increase the speed; you know, more rain, more wipe but it doe the opposite.
The infotainment brightness dial seems a bit off too but at least that makes sense, roll down to lower the brightness (with corresponding thin to thick lines).
The only thing that makes sense with the wipers is the low setting is less time between wipes, which is madness.

Old Alfa’s used to do this with the heater fan - 1st click was most intense, then progressively lighter as you turned the switch further. I assumed their thinking was that you’ll need a lot of fan initially, then gradually less, but am aware that logic isn’t foolproof đŸ¤£

And the phone connectivity is noticeably less polished than in other cars I’ve had.
Yeah that got me too, first I was confused it didn't match the rain intensity (then I realised there is no rain sensor) and next I had to get my head around the wipe frequency being the wrong way around o_O

I am overall happy with the interior not as bad as some of the reviews made out.I have a 3 series and a mini and the materials are much better quality in both. Strangely the actual fit is as good or better in the GR. I also have a Mr2 MK2 and the build quality of the interior and paintwork are better than all of them. Apart from some seat bolster wear it all leather it’s like new after 30 years. I agree with earlier post about center console. It’s a daily but I am very careful and after 4k miles it’s already marked as are the drivers side plastic cill covers

I'm sensing some strong new car honeymoon vibes in this thread.

The interior finish is mediocre, I'm sorry it is, I sat in a new Dacia duster the other week, interior felt pretty much on par with the GR86, that is the ultimate budget machine! My 25 year old 200SX was better. It's all bottom end stuff, cheap switchgear, lots of monotone scratchy plastics, 90% of the interior budget clearly went on the seats which are great. Maybe it will be robust like an honest pair of wellies who knows. Fortunately the GR86 has alot of good traits and it's ergonomics are absolutely bang on, but the interior is definitely something you don't brag about to your mates at the pub.

My impression (2hr test drive only) was generally positive in terms of ergonomics and materials, but…
I thought the leather in the steering wheel felt really cheap (compared to facelift GT86) but maybe it will get better / feel more, er, leathery with time?
The touchscreen looks a right shocker - I’m kind of old school when it comes to tech, but I really didn’t think that sort of matt-effect screen still existed. That and the massive plastic bezel are borderline unacceptable aesthetically - it’s like an iPad from 1984 or something. Sir Clive Sinclair would be proud…
Same for Toyota/Subaru’s take on the ‘virtual dash’ - The resolution and layout look really low-rent to my eyes. Again, I’m not too familiar with super-modern cars, but surely other manufacturers are doing significantly better than this?? Honestly think a couple of decent analog gauges would’ve been more sophisticated
Oh and the frickin lack of seat tilt function!! I put my bags / papers in the back seat EVERY TIME I use a car. I was so pleased to see in the press release images last year that they’d added a catch just below the headrest to easy access / tilt the rear seats. But no, it’s just a sort of fast recline catch and I’ll have to readjust the backrest every time I use the car (appreciate that’s maybe just me, but I can tell it will really get on my nerves…)
Otherwise all good đŸ˜¬đŸ˜‚

Nailed it. The low resolution instrument panel is particularly disturbing for me. Triggers a "OMG my vision's blurry, I'm going blind" response in my brain.
Just to show you there are budget cars with good screens, the 11th gen Civic instrument panel is truly spectacular in comparison. Resolution akin to an iPhone. Life-like. Zero issues with it.

Thanks, dark mode makes maps much more legible.

As for my pausing problem, it's only when playing music/podcasts via USB. Through Android Auto it's better with a pause button on the screen but I'd still prefer a physical button.
Probably an epic thread bump but this was the first post I found searching for "play/pause button"...found out that you can pause the current track by holding the "Source" button on the steering wheel. Can't take credit for the discovery, I saw someone post it on the Facebook group, they said it works with Apple Carplay. Just tried it with AA, works there too.

Still a bit odd that they couldn't just put a play/pause button in the middle of the left hand D-pad, but it's better than nothing!

Amazing, I've lost count on the number of times I've subconsciously gone to hit the non existent pause button on that D pad.

Thanks, chuffing useful!

Agreed, thanks for sharing this.

The lack of a physical pause/stop button felt like a real safety issue due to having to take your eyes off the road to navigate back to the app playing music, locate the pause button and then have a few stabs at the screen to get it to work.

I like to be able to pause whatever I'm listening to when it could be a distraction from a difficult piece of driving such as navigating Redbridge roundabout. Muting isn't the same because I don't want to miss any of the podcast I'm listening to.

Until now I had taken to using the voice control button on the steering wheel and saying 'stop music' which was a faff but better than taking my eyes off the road.
