do88 is now selling its kit, and the volume is actually lower then Wagner so it's for sure a very nice kit and probably the best one right now all things considered. Yes sitting in front of the radiator means it will soak heat from it when stationary, but that huge large area also means it will cool quickly once moving....

They should have made 2x thinner 'street version' for the response fanatics! 😎
 
Hehe perhaps. If response, maybe better to stay OEM IC and get as much heat out from behind as possible.... Oh well.

would be nice to test with Hood vents with stock IC but my butt feeling is that it doesn't make much difference in the heat soak. IC gets soaked.
Diyman tested the vents and it dropped he's water temp by 4'C. assuming same gains it would reduce IC temp by 4%(?) - so 2'C in total (assuming heat tops 50'C with stock IC.
Yes, its an improvement but not by much.

Water temp drop doesn't have a very big delta so 4C can be very good.... don't think it is linear towards IAT. But it is difficult to measure in a comparable manner.... edit: Diymans vid showing how hard it blowed through his hood vents when driving through the rain makes me pretty sure it makes a noticeable difference....

I have seen +55° in the pits with the engine of, as soon as you start it drops down to +20° ambient even stationary. The it takes a lap to get down to +5° ambient if you not giving it all at once but hopefully you wait with that atleast 2 laps...
Even at Mantorp that has a long long straight I never saw more than +10° at full tilt. (Peak at 1.8bar with a bigger turbo)

Stock IC tops at over 55° but at that point you dont have any timing and its dumping a lot of fuel into the cylinders to try to cool things of...
 
Measured inside engine compartment temps during hot drack day. Iat logging not available (after ic)

That sounds very, very good. They made the best IC for my previous platform (20+ ICs available and tested) and they are doing it again...
 
What do you think would be the best intercooler for a setup with stock turbo (300-350hp)? I understand that a much larger intercooler than the stock one would not be needed to avoid lag? Is it worth adding the large pipes?

Not sure if you notice the lag. I'm quite happy with Wagner at least, good IC and pipework.

Depends where you live (ambients), how you drive (road/track, fast or slow routes/tracks) , what expectations (on lag...), other mods (exhaust, cooling (vents)) and 300 or 350hp (which is a significant difference and how important is +-15hp?)....
 
Ever the contrarian I’ve gone for Pro Alloy’s version, with the boost pipes, although it’ll be a while before I’ve got it on the car.

It's my fault ;)

And yes I do notice more lag, other upgrades (like you have @Greenthumb ) may compensate for that, without the additional lag (that I both noticed and measured) the car would be even more direct...
If it hurts your driving really depends, on e.g. track driving it doesn't really matter as you can 'pre-empt' when the boost will come in and when you will need it. If you love driving small twisty roads with limited visibilty like me, I do wish I had some less lag when the bend finally opens up and pressing the throttle and.. and yes there we have full power*.... and why I (we all?) would love anti-lag on a car :D

PS: there is a driving technique to get around this 'bend opens up lag', and that is to use left foot braking while on the throttle when approaching the moment the bend might open up. But it's not for everyone and it's not the same joy as 'ultimate' NA throttle response.

PSS: what really makes the lag even worse is heat soak. So if you get mods to battle that, the remaining lag isn't that bad, it really annoys me though in combination with heat soaked lag.
