GR Yaris Intake Snorkel - Superseded?

I was looking at getting the red GR intake Snorkel for my 2020 GR Yaris and was looking up part numbers when I noticed that the P/N for the Intake Snorkel seems to be the same between Pre-Facelift and Facelift GR Yarises.
Does this imply that ordering the 17751-18010 Intake snorkel would automatically get you the new red one or am I overlooking something here?

I think the part has changed. Pretty sure I’ve seen a couple of newer 2025/26 cars that had a black snorkel.

I have a red one in storage with a few 100miles on it. If you get no joy I’m at the ring in September if that’s any help.
 
Hi Florens, it looks like Garage Whifbitz still sell them. I bought one from them last year and it's surprising it actually works and improves performance!

Interesting and good to know, I wonder why they might have changed it back or if the newest iteration of it is simply black now.
I'll try to gather more information on this matter and depending on what I find I might get back to you about that snorkel.
 
17751-18030 is the number I have for the red GRMN style intake. It used to be 17750-18010 initially but was superseded.

17751-18010 is the number for black snorkel which is the same as in the gen 1's though I can't say that I've seen any of these on the newer UK gen 2's or aero packs.

Thanks, that must be it! The price is incomprehensebly much much steeper though. We're talking 10x vs the black snorkel. They'll be making a solid margin here. I can't imagine this piece being 10x more expensive to produce..

The black inlet is flimsy garbage. I tested both extensively, and while it doesn't pull in engine room air once the car is moving over 10km/h, it dumps ambient air into the engine room vs. putting it in the air box. The GRMN one lowers intake temps across the board when the car is moving forward because a lot more air is entering the box via the upper duct, so pulling less in through the lower duct. Actually data logged inlet pressure at the box with a magnehelic gauge, and the difference is substantial, even the open red inlet pipe vs. a completely tape-sealed black pipe.

While I didn't run it on the dyno...and dyno testing air intakes is pointless without road-speed air on the front of the car...the top-end bump is real. Like that loss of power once you pass 6,000rpm is gone and the car pulls all the way out to 7,000.

It's also made of much better material and more robust.

It's ¥33,000 here in Japan after tax, where the black one is like ¥3,500 (X10) and Whif wants what looks like £295 before VAT, which is almost double that. But, freight from Japan to the UK for a single piece is likely ¥7,000, so ¥40,000 or £189. Add whatever import tax the UK levies, and what Whif is charging becomes pretty fair and not an unreasonable markup.

I'll say this and try to stay out of trouble. Look at the factory Super Taikyu GR Yaris, you'll see it's running the factory air box. Look at the resent LeMans GR Yaris entries, and you'll see they're running the factory air box. Look at the test mule where they put the g20e in the rear...and it's running a factory GR Yaris air box :LOL: (I've seen it up close). Weird that Toyota would leave those big airbox gains (claimed) on the table.

I'm not putting into question the efficiency of the red snorkel. I wouldn't even have looked into it if I believed that there was no sense in getting it. I just think that it's one of those GR Parts that are effective as margin drivers as I can't imagine this piece costing Toyota more than like 1500-2000JPY to manufacture. I'll probably still get it though :rolleyes: Your Feedback about the car pulling much harder above 6000 RPM is really valuable though because I've always felt that the car falls on it's face above 6000 RPM and the Dyno Graphs for stock cars absolutely confirm that.

A slightly different intake tube isn't going to change the top end power band to any degree you can feel. Cams and a tune are required.

If your slightly different intake lowers the IAT in the air box by 4°C (logged it), it won't make much difference with a naturally aspirated engine, as you're only looking at a small air density increase. On a modern turbo car that's playing 5D chess with engine management, it retards the ignition timing less (logged it), and delivers a substantial increase. This is especially true in the top end with the Yaris, as IAT increases with RPM due to engine room air entering the lower duct.

This is also why the aftermarket intake claims are so ridiculous. They use carpet drying fans for frontal air, and show 50°C IAT in the box on a 16°C day... The highest we've seen is around 45°C on a 33°C day with proper road-speed frontal air. On an AVL AWD dyno, we had double-digit WHP gain between fan on and fan off.

Have not tested the GR intake on the dyno.. yet. But like I said, 4°C IAT drop over the black one at 7,000rpm.
