GR Yaris Humpty's GRY

With our version of winter upon us I had the opportunity to test the heated seats that we somehow get while those in colder climes miss out. While not especially cold even for us at 8C I did a mischief to my lower back and sacrum. Moral is don't manhandle a box blade onto the tractor then spend a couple of hours on the chainsaw... I was waiting for takeaway in an outdoor area and the low temp and a cheeky wind started which caused tightening and spasming of bits. Got to the car and though why not? And it was incredibly good. Enough heat to settle things down without overdoing it. This is the first time I have used heated seats that have been I the last four cars I bought over the years. Was very happy to have them on this occasion. I could actually walk upright when I arrived home after a 20 minute drive!

Tyres are on the wheels, wheels on the car is the next step.

Rubber feels firmer than the V107 they are replacing but tread depth is much greater suggesting they will be soft. According to Yokohama these are the replacement tyre for the A008 which I quite liked last century. No channels to the sides so I am guessing wet performance won't be the greatest but the yaris is damn good in the wet even on semi slicks. TBA.

Fitted up the new tyres and discovered that two of the centre caps were showing signs of age. Two more on order so it is running without caps at the moment. Not sure I will fit them back on or not.

Bit of an update on the V601s. I have done about 5,000km and given them a good scrubbing with a weekly trip across some serious range driving. The grip has improved and is probably close but not quite the same as the PS4S/V107, and certainly not AD08R or AD09 levels of grip. They are very good in the wet, much better than I expected and good on gravel despite the lack of cross channels. Surprisingly good on gravel. Noise levels are better than the semis. So an OK tyre for sane and fast road but not a road/track option. I wouldn't put them in the A008 class of tyre. Means I get to try something else next time.

Hmmm. Long time no update. The V601s got a bit loose so ended up on an A3. Fitted Conti Sportcontact 7s. Best wet weather tyre I have ever used and that is currently quite relevant. Not much driving though as I am building a new touring 4wd which takes time, especially waiting on releases of aftermarket bits for the updated face.

GRY has just 40,000km in 5 full years.

Anyway we had a lunar eclipse here last week so a pic to share. And a fourby.

New clutch is quite light in action. Feels a bit different but easy to get used to. As the lower crossmember came out I had the alignment redone. Dropped front camber back to a touch over -2deg since I am running 245s on the road. Rear same as before maxxed out at about -2deg. My enunciation must have been awry as I ended up with toe in at the bow and toe out at the stern. Not overly bothered and will give it a trial. When I first fitted the coilovers I went toe out both ends and it was a bit exciting on wet roads. 🙃
