GR Yaris (Gen 2) How should we show Mk2 GR Yaris content on this forum?

Should the Mk2 have it's own forums, or simply add it to GR Yaris

It's a update in the same generation, not a new car. >80% of existing GR Yaris content is applicable to it. Keep it in the same forum IMHO.

We had this issue on the MLR and kept it to generations, so we had a 1-3 section, 4-6 section, a 7-9 section etc. as the generations had more in common with each other than they differed, even if there were some pretty fundamental differences between an Evo IV and a TME.

At the same time, there were some similarities between all generations (e.g. pistons, camshafts etc. for an Evo VIII would fit an Evo I) so it doesn't serve anyone to try and categorise everything too strictly as people inevitably miss some relevant content if you split everything up.

What we should call it is a more pressing matter so we know what we're talking about! I really wish Toyota had given it a specific nomenclature.
  • Mk.2? Not really, it's not a new car. What would we call the real Mk.2 when/if it arrives?
  • Facelift? Technically, yes. But it's also a bit more than that.
  • Evo? Perhaps. Delta Evos were basically improvements on the same model, but Lancer Evos were frequently new models, or had more fundamental changes (wider track, new headlights/body panels etc.)
  • 2024 model? Perhaps the most accurate, in the absence of a name from Toyota

Agreed - keep it in the existing forum gets my vote. It would just split the traffic and it's only a facelift, not a brand new model.

I asked Toyota this morning what it should be called and as it stands today, it's the new GR Yaris, but personally until it's given another official name we should simply call it a Mk2.

2 separate sub forums.
Makes it simpler searching for information for your particular model.

Coming from i30N, they were simply designated PFL and FL (pre-facelift and facelift)

What about GT Yaris…….

It’s already a Mk2 in my head now, can’t be undone 😊

Thanks for all the votes and the majority so far (70%) want to keep the Mk2 linked to the original GR Yaris forum.

What we can't do is have all threads and posts in general discussion, so for now we have a sub-forum called GR Yaris Mk2 (2024 Model Year) which then has all the familiar sub forums such as Orders and Delivery, Videos & Articles etc so that you can find threads easily.

The new Mk2 section is currently at the top of the GR Yaris list, this may change but for now it keeps information visible and compact.

If this doesn't work we'll change it, but for now let's see how we get on.

Cheers

I think it's just ridiculous with all these forums and sub-forums and sub-sub-forums added o_O
Are you trying go keep up with the growth of groups and communities on fakebook?

Stop it and roll back 👮‍♂️ ...asap

ps: it took me 10 minutes just to find this post again so I could reply, I think it's very telling for the future

Please share how we should structure the forum - happy to listen, but placing all content in one section is not the solution either.

Honestly, I don't know. I'm just an induhvidual and it was my spontaneous reaction since I've not yet seen a forum gain anything with more sub-sections. Rather the opposite; not more users, not more traffic, more misplaced threads etc.
