GR86 How long will you keep your GR86?

TBC, its my daily but in 14 months I havent fallen for it, I still get annoyed by the throttle sensitivity for daily driving and a few other things I'd change if I was the Toyota engineers, BUT what else for similar money, manual and 10 year warranty?? Nothing I can think of. 981 Cayman S is tempting but I know it will be many times more expensive to run. Suggestions on a postcard. :)

Does anything older and cheaper float your boat? What is it you want that the GR doesn't give? (and I don't mean better throttle sensitivity, which you can presumably fix)
 
53 years old and my pre-retiral toy. Plan to keep the car 10 years, matching the 10 year warranty, servicing and MOT package from Toyota. It arrived in September 23 and on 5000 miles already. One of the best cars I have ever owned and I feel it's on par with the 86 911 Supersport I had over 20 years ago. It's in for its first proper valet today since it was tickled on arrival.

I am thinking of selling, I love the car the way it drives & now I've got rid of the black wheels the way it looks.
But I'm just not using it, in 16 months I've done a bit over 2000 miles, it was always going to be a weekend/holiday car, as much as I love driving it I hate parking it anywhere & worry about it getting damaged.
I know it's irrational but I have suffered numerous car park dinks over the years no matter how carefully out the way I park & I know how upset I would be if the GR was damaged & if I caught them red handed I probably wouldn't be responsible for my actions.
So it spends more time in the garage while I drive round in a bog standard 10 year old Civic!
It seems a waste of both money & the car
The plan is to then swap the Honda for probably a used hot hatch & that to be my only car.
Any advice other than therapy would be welcome, worried I may do something I regret.
 
For me, it only goes if one of the following:
  • Need the cash for something. Could always pay house off early, do conservatory, etc but no rush really.
  • Someone makes a silly offer (I have a price in my head I'd let it go for and is more than we paid)
  • It starts being unrealistically unreliable and expensive to fix (has 10yr warranty for now)
  • I can somehow get a 911 but can't see this ever happening. Not while I have a mortgage to pay.
  • The paint pisses me off enough that my OCD can't take it anymore. It marks so easy but my attitude now is that entropy gets us in the end anyway so just enjoy it for what it is. I'll get the detailer to do a once over every year or so, PPF some bits I haven't yet.
I could also see me letting it go if I decide that I don't want money tied up in something. I have low moments when I think "what's the point of owning nice things?" but then I drive it and that feeling disappears. I get the same with the motorbike too and I've not long bought new leathers. Having time to do things is a big thing for me. The dog is taking a lot of it but I enjoy that. Nice to have a purpose to walk at least twice a day, see new places, actually talk to people other than friends and work people. Cycling and motorbike use have dropped off a lot but is so weather dependent and I'd thought about selling both. But the car is a constant, even now I have an old Swift for daily but I often pick the 86 as I was finding I didn't like being out of tune with it. Once I get over the sentimental issues with the Swift and most of the house renovation is done I'll probably sell that and get a BMW estate and play with that a bit. We'll see.

Pisses me off too, but now that it holds a few battle scars I'm a lot less precious. Really unlocked (mostly responsible) enjoyment of the car.
I've not PPFd, I DIY the ceramic, I drive it hard and wash it often but I'm going to enjoy the car first, swirl marks be damned. I do daily the car though, so my experience of the car will likely be different to others.

I daily and even with partial PPF, I see marks all the time. I can't be bothered now so I'll get my detailer to give it a once over once a year and I'll wash it once a fortnight. I may not even bother with more PPF as it's more cost again. It has marks so it's never going to be perfect. I drive it hard every day when traffic allows. First car in a long time where I hold back on sections to enjoy them when it's clear. The car feels better when running at pace.

Sounds like me. I’m 50 in June and this is my weekend toy and also occasional euro trips too.
Keep it in good condition and in 10 years time I’ll pass to another enthusiast.

Mine was a year old in February and it’s now done just 1,100 miles in its 15 months of ownership. Despite the care and attention I lavish on it, the precautions I take in car parks etc, the car still ended up dented whilst parked on my driveway! You just can’t mitigate for everything. Best off enjoying it for what it is - a fantastic good looking coupe.
 
There is a difference between cherishing a car and preserving it. Cars aren’t objects to be preserved in my opinion, nothing wrong will keeping it in the best possible condition but its never going to stay flawless.

How long will I keep mine? No idea, life is unpredictable but I have no intentions of replacing it, at all, even if someone plonked a large sum of cash on my lap.
 
I'm hoping to keep mine long term and I clean / maintain it with that in mind, but with the economy the way it is I might have to let it go soon and get something cheap and (less) cheerful.

Fingers crossed things improve a bit soon and I can keep it, but I can't see it happening unless an election is called very soon.
