GR86 How long will you keep your GR86?

30 odd cars in ~17 years, although planning this to be a long term keeper, nothing makes sense to replace it.

Only real temptation is a manual V10 R8 but actually I want that as well not instead of.
 
A year… SWMBO said I could buy the car while she’s recovering from her stem cell transplant and then we’d get a “normal” car again…

Whether we do sell in October will depend entirely on the return we’re offered.. if it’s too low (bearing in mind I was a batch #2 full retail price buyer) then we’ll probably keep the GR and get a used second hand car as opposed to a new Lexus LBX (possibly)
 
14 cars in 38 years, 4 of which I bought new and still have, the first being an MR2 in 1997 and the last being the GR86 this year; 6 were company cars which took most of the daily mileage over the years. No company car now so the GR86 is my daily...until I can get my hands on the new Land Cruiser...but no plans to sell it (ever).

Did you drive down there? We’re staying slightly outside so that’s good to hear we’ll have somewhere to park when we drive in.
I was originally intending to take the GR but my insurance doesn’t cover me for going abroad 😩

Sounds like you get as attached to your cars as I do! I had an MR2 in 1997 too, back in those days I always had to sell in order to fund the next one, it would be nice to still have it.
 
The GR86 will be my daily for the next 6-8 years. Then, I'll try to find something better. If our wise, environmentally conscious politicians successfully prevent me from doing so, I'll buy what's still allowed and keep the GR86 in a garage. I'll treat it like a precious classic car and occasionally drive it on nice summer evenings.
 
The only other car I realistically want more is a 997 911, but the potential maintenance/repair costs have dettered me from owning one of those.

I used to have RWD cars, then had a Megane 265 trophy and fk8 type R before the GR86. Despite them being really capable cars, I found myself pining for RWD. Well sorted FWD cars are engaging when you're driving them at precisely 10 tenths but they're a bit one dimensional when you just want to drive for fun. I dont think i could go back to owning only one car which doesnt have rear driven wheels.

With my current budget and what I want from a car dynamically, I can't think of anything else that fits the bill right now.
I've also developed an absolute hatred for lane keep assist, collision warning and all that other crap that is now mandatory on new cars, which pretty much rules out anything from 2024 onwards.

Currently the GR86 ticks almost all the boxes for me and the aftermarket seems to have the answers to the things I want to improve.

I plan on keeping it for a long, long time.
 
I totally agree with regards to avoiding all the safety crap that is mandated on new cars now, another dislike of mine is electronic handbrakes.

The GR86 comes with quite a bit of useful tech which I didn’t know I was getting before I bought it, blind spot warning, RCTA and the cornering headlamps come to mind. There’s a couple of things which I think they should have included on the manual car though, auto dimming rear view mirror and auto high beam. It feels really old fashioned to flip a lever on the rear view mirror!
 
I'd like to say forever but entropy gets us all in the end anyway. There's nothing else I want currently that's in budget. I can't afford a 911. I'd like something with more carrying space but that will be the Swift's replacement when the time comes. I like how it has just enough tech and no more. Plus the mod scene is great too.

I thought they were more into scooters?
 
Plan is to keep it while we still need 2 school run cars then get a nice practical car and a 2 seat drop top, will be pushing 5 years old by then

997 is the only other car speaking to me atm too, but I do a fair amount of short runs / town driving in the mix, and it just seems to much of a faff popping into town for a meeting in a 3.8 litre 911! So yeah, I’ll be keeping it ‘86 for now as it makes a surprisingly easy to live with daily driver✌️
 
I am considering the 911 Dakar look when I can no longer get out of it. 😊
