I followed this guide, it has better photos than I took:

Basically, remove the duct blanking section, and sandwich the mesh between it when putting it back. The rest is a few small holes in the plastic lugs and number plate blanking plugs, with cable ties through, keeping it under tension. Nothing intrusive.
Cheers - going to be doing this as well.

Never removed a bumper myself but what could possibly go wrong..right?

It's not as scary as it looks, but looks terrifying once it's off!

This video from Lazer Lamps shows the step y step method of removing it, which I found really useful:

Talking of lazer lamps, I'm thinking of getting one of their LED bars installed as well.

I have to do the drive down to Bristol once a month, and coming back after work it can get quite dark :D

Doesn't the radar need re-calibrating afterwards?
Or is that just something I got charged for needlessly :D
I still haven't been able to get round to selling the Yaris yet - it sits there for a few days and I'm there thinking 'I'm just not driving it enough', then I take it out and after 5 mins it's warmed up and pulling like a terrier on a lead :D

I’m not entirely sure whether it should or not to be honest, but I use the radar cruise quite a lot and haven’t had a problem with it. I do have more of the angry ‘BRAKE!’ beeping since the recall, but nothing to suggest it isn’t behaving as designed. I would have thought that the official answer would be yes though 😊

So I have done 200 miles , believe I haven't hit anything and found this as walking past the car today..
Am thinking of going down the Zunsports route. Seems to be least intrusive option to protecting the grill..

grill damage.webp

Agree that the Zunsport looks atrocious and the fixing is pants. Reading all the posts and being in possession of a GRY with a broken grill, a replacement and a spare broken grill (opposite side) I will probably reinforce the new one before fitting it. I think using silicone on parts of the plastic grill and then the mesh behind may work to strengthen the grill. The mesh on the OE Grill is triangular in cross section so attaching to the rear is not so simple.

I am surprised that everyone is so hell bent on preserving the grille and no one has gone for the nuclear dremel route. As if peace was ever an option

Cut out the entire front black chinisuim plastic, and then replaced the area with universal metal one. Should give her that R8 Coupe look

Hey, I would do it. But alas I am too chicken to

I glued a metal grille mesh behind the plastic one, mostly to protect coolers. But if I damage the orignal one, now way putting the same stuff there again, just dremel out and put a nice looking aftermarket in front. Nobody cares how a bumper looks like from the inside...

Now someone is kinda on to the reason I bought a f'cked grill off ebay

I’ve removed the upper grill as it blocks the rally beam. Could do the same for lower too, though not until its broken

Went old school/DIY about a year ago and so far so good...
Costs;
Black metal mesh from Amazon £10 (cut to size with normal scissors)
5 Cable ties 25p
Time about 20 mins
Only faff was getting the cable ties through and back round. Does the job and looks rallyish/amateurish depending on your OCD levels!
