Since May 21 I’ve amassed a grand total of about 1700 miles. Just noticed that the grille is missing a few bits. No idea when this happened, not hit any badgers, deer or pheasants - not even noticed any stones. Can only assume it happened a few weeks back when I drove back from Birmingham in the pissing rain. Not happy though, aside from the cost to put it right I can’t help thinking it’s only going to happen again for no good reason - as much as I love the car the grille is simply not fit for purpose.
Wondering how many others have had the same thing happen?

And has anyone managed to come up with an aftermarket version that’s just a bit thicker? Not that ugly chicken wire thing

Whereabouts on the grill? Cracks or chunks missing in various places? Any damage to the intercooler or radiator? I've noticed a lot of stone chips and dents to the intercooler but the grill is intact.

I’ll take a pic once it’s light

No damage to intercooler that I can see

Couple of cracks and a little chunk missing

I have a lot of bent fins in both my radiator and intercooler. Only noticed when I had the bumper off to repair the pheasant damage to the fog light surround. Bleeders head actually cracked the bumper as well.

These kind of issues should be reported to where you purchased the car and Toyota as it could become a recall issue or the grill fitted isn't fit for purpose. Just my thoughts what do we all think ?

I’m inclined to agree as if I’d hit the pheasant in my Skoda I’m sure it would of bounced off.

I've emailed Toyota GB and had a reply back today saying they would contact the dealer to inspect it
Reason I did this was that I want to make sure that even if I do have to pay for another grille, that I believe that it's not fit for purpose
In under 2000 miles of driving I haven't hit any creatures, or abused the car in any way, but what was probably a stray stone that would bounce of most cars has left me with an ugly hole in the grille. I count myself lucky that the intercooler fins look ok, but given the size of the holes in the mesh could see them being vulnerable as well

I suggested that the design is defective because

1) the plastic is too thin/brittle
2) having a modular design instead of one large single piece would at least help keep costs down if only part of it was broken
3) the holes in the mesh are too large

If they don't do anything & I'm force to pay full price with no goodwill, then I'm going to have to have a hard think about keeping the car., even though I love driving it Sad I know, but once my miles return to levels approaching pre-lockdown, I'm not prepared to have to pay out for 4-5 new grilles per year!

More people that can highlight this to Toyota the better, otherwise they'll likely just ignore it

I have a slat missing on the upper section, though you don't really notice it. It's been like that for about a year now. I'm fairly sure it was the result of some debris hitting the car on the motorway which another car flicked up in front of me.

See if you can spot it.

Love it or loath it, the Zunsport grille should prevent most damage to the incredibly fragile plastic.

Has anyone got a photo of one fitted to a white GR?
