One for the 'technicians'....
It seems Toyota main dealers now want to put 0W-20 oil in everything, even though the GRMN user manual specifies 5W-40.
Can anyone cast any light on this? Should I be concerned? I've done 6 miles on the new oil so far.
Last years service, and all the others, was the 5W-40, this years service 0W-20....... Apparently something to do with modern oil additives taking up the slack, so to speak, and with 'emissions/mpg/otherstuff',
What does the community think about this?

Are you referring to the 1.8L Supercharged 2ZR-FE?

Howdy Sekred,
Thanks for your reply, yes I am referring to the 2018 Yaris 1.8 GRMN supercharged 2ZR.
Do you know anything about this. I have heard its something to do with projected emissions/mpg regulations, possibly from EU .....?

I would stick with the 5W-40 or even a 0W-30 or a 5W-30 myself.

Thanks for your reply, I'll run it for a couple of months over winter cold temps, then swap it out for a slightly heavier grade.

I just had this with my 2018 GRMN. 0W20 put in by Toyota garage. I questioned this and was told it was what they now use. Went to Toyota UK and their response was 5W40 is "mandatory" for this vehicle.
I can imagine warranty claims may be complicated if your service records show the wrong oil was used.

Howdy All,
For your info..... it was service time again for the GRMN, very recently, and guess what...... the dealer manager actually mentioned it while I was booking in that 5W-40 is the mandatory spec for this model.
Maybe there has been a Toyota database update, but no ambiguity/confusion, anymore, so it seems.
All services have always been followed up with the usual Toyota Email, saying the '10 year' warranty has been applied and extended.
