GR86 GR86 values at the end of 2025, are they worth it and what else can you get?

I ended up getting a brand new Octavia VRS estate (with a heavy discount).

A great car, over half the cost of my previous RS4, but not half the fun. I didn’t spec any options to keep the RRP under £40k (that said it comes with everything I need as standard, e.g. reverse camera, heated seats, high beam assist, acc, etc). They’ve also removed the fake sound with the facelift, and replaced it with a fruity sports exhaust.
This is heartening. Like when a new model of a car comes out and it is smaller and/or lighter than the preceding model - makes me think that the car industry isn't universally heading in the wrong direction!

Toyota GR86

Limited numbers and being a genuinely great drivers’ car – unlike the earlier GT86 – means GR86s will be worth more in future. In time they could become the next UK-spec, manual A80 Supra, which now commands crazy money (one of which my father sold not that long ago for just 10 grand, ouch) – so even though they seem expensive today at £26,000-28,000, this is a great long game car. One that can be enjoyed right now because it feels so bullet-proof and is such a cracking thing to drive, but which will be worth a decent amount in time.

Totally flip flopped on mine. Think it’ll be going when the finance runs out in the summer. Roughly £10k up in it and I want off the finance wheel for a while.

Will likely be taking the money and picking up an NC MX5 and taking to it BBR after a few weeks/months.

Just ran mine through Motorway with just under 8k miles, coming back at £30,025.

Pretty happy with that even if they did deduct a little off. It’s staying for now though, will revisit end of summer and see how I feel if I get some more use out of it this year.
I got the same estimated sale price with 11k miles. I did one back in November and got £28,575, so up £1,450 in 4 months for some reason. If Motorway is correct I’m looking at 4% annual depreciation. I don’t know why I check to be honest, I have no intention of selling until at least the 10 year warranty has run its course. I wouldn’t be surprised if I kept it another 10 years after that to be honest - there is nothing new under £100k that interests me at the moment. Will be interesting to see what the long term depreciation looks like.

I am now having a wobble after seeing an Alpine A290 on the road, I also keep getting told I need a more practical car (Defender 90 and GR) plus wouldn't mind releasing some money from the GR. I just don't know how much regret I will have if I go and do something impulsive.

My only wobble is with what eventually replaces the Swift. It stays until it dies but I almost don't want too fun a car or the 86 wouldn't get used as much.

I’m just finding I’m using the 86 less and less, I always said I would use it as much as possible cause I dont see the point of having a car in the garage doing nothing. But I keep finding a reason not to take it 🤷‍♂️

That’s where I found myself when impulse led me to swap for an A110. I don’t regret it at all, but I guess that will depend on what you end up with and how it fits your life. The GR86 is an amazing car and I agree it needs to be driven not sat in the garage like mine was.

Is it weird that I'm the opposite? I'm almost using mine too much and it's lost the special-ness. 23k miles and climbing, twice a week commute (30 mile round trip) and it gets used every weekend. I think I've bored myself of it...

I do go quite long spells without using it and mostly down to the journey type as I don't like leaving it in crap places or where there's a high risk of a parking ding. Lot of the the hikes we do the road up North Wales are perfect for the 86 but the road to the start of the hike is often awful, single track, uncut bushes. Then a carpark that looks like the moon and it's a struggle to park safely. I'm off to Anglesey end of the month and had to in advance Google street view the end points to see which hikes I can do as I'll take the 86. Even the Airbnb I booked I made sure the parking situation is good. People have said sell it because I'm so careful of it but any nice car I would be. So does that mean I never have a nice car because I want to take care of it?

But the issue with not driving it is you lose sync with it, then the thoughts of selling come back. Logically I don't need it. I have the Swift for daily. It will get replaced one day but also have the bike for fun. I'd only replace the 86 if the daily was one that's fun and can carry the dog, then possibly look at something more extreme. Alpine is out for me currently as you can't put a dog in it. But if the daily was better I may not have to. But then I'd use it even less as where I go, so does the dog. It's lots to think about. But when you're in tune with it, it's fantastic and keeps with faster stuff no issue on the roads I drive it on.

My miles are really down for year 3. I do find I sometimes talk myself out of using it. This weekend for example, we’re doing a trip that takes 80 minutes on the motorway or over 2 hours avoiding motorways. If I were going alone I’d absolutely go using the B roads, but I can’t justify asking my wife to get up 40 minutes earlier just so I can enjoy the drive more. And I’m a firm believer that when you’re on a motorway with cruise control set to 70, it doesn’t really matter what car you’re in.

I won’t sell it though. It’s still under warranty, on a fixed price service plan, cheap to insure, and bucking depreciation trends, making it so cheap to own it doesn’t necessarily even seem like a good financial decision to sell at this point. Yes I could release about £15k and buy something more efficient and practical, but a bit more cash in the bank would not replace the way it makes me feel during those drives when it genuinely is the best vehicle to take.

I happened to check the other day, and since my MOT around 5 months ago (8th November), I've only done about 2k miles. I use it to commute (~60 mile round trip), but luckily I get to work from home a lot - it's unusual if I have to go in to the office more than 2 days a week. And since that orange dickhead across the pond kicked off, my boss has pretty much said no need to come into the office unless absolutely necessary due to the rising fuel costs. As a result, the car has barely moved lately, with my early morning drive last Monday the only time I've started it up.

Tbh, that suits me fine. It gets driven enough to not decay, but not enough that it starts to feel mundane. As the weather starts to warm hopefully it will get used for more fun drives (although also expecting our first child later this year, so probably not going to have free time for a while after that).

Yeah I had a feeling, going back to a 2 car setup was the best thing I did. Driving it becomes a bit of an event now and its always associated with doing something fun, I'll even go out just for a drive now which is something I never used to do. Its helps the other car is a boxy EV, the complete opposite of an 86. Now its relegated from daily duties when I pay it off in the summer I will look to make it even more driver/driving orientated.

I took my GT86 to Anglesey back in 2017, I enjoyed the driving just as much as the hiking, the A5, A55 and surrounding roads were superb. Google maps satellite images and street view are literally a god send for finding the best car parks and routes :D I always do this for somewhere new.

Congrats Dave thats awesome news :)

Credit to you for looking after your car so well, as you say if you got something different and wanted to look after it would be same, I'd still be careful where you park. With the GR if things hold the depreciation would be minimal, if you got something else would it hold it's value so well for the same price point.
I was thinking the same with the PCP coming to an end to take a bit of a profit back though, but then what else would I buy with it, 2 wheels would be fun but less practical then the GR with it's 4 seats.

Guess we are in a good position, in a different world, wonder if I would feel different if the PCP figure was less then the guaranteed value whether I would just had it back to Toyota and be done with it 🤔
