GR86 GR86 - Service Plans

Yup, I got a 10 year Toyota plan in June from Abbey Toyota in Redhill. They are a official Toyota service centre. I believe they see alot of GRY's as there is a thread on here that recommends them.

Its local to me so I plan to get my GR86 serviced there, but the service plan can be used at any recognised Toyota dealer/service centre.

My supplying dealer couldn't do more than three years either.

The 10 year plan is £36.36 per month, so about the same as the three year plan. As I plan to keep the car, seemed sensible to do, and I believe it is transferable if I do sell.
No way! Gatwick would only sign me up for a max 3 years, I wonder if it's too late.

£4320 over 10years, how does that compare with pay-as-you-service over the same period?
Favourably, as there'll likely be some price increases in the future for the services. At the very least it works out to be the same as paying for services and MOTs through toyota at current prices.

Thanks for your help @sim61. The dealer wasn't aware of 10 year options until I sent the quote from Abbey Toyota across. Success!

After giving this some thought, it’s actually a pretty good deal. Prices are only going to go up. The warranty cost is in effect built into the pricing. If you thinking that a warranty for 7 years at £300 or more a year is nearly half the cost then it feels more palatable.

Does it include everything like brake fluid changes? Coolant changes, gearbox oil change or are these extra? Suspect they are not included.

Glad you got a good response.

My belief is that anything that is scheduled is included. Hopefully I won't have to eat my own words come brake fluid change time, so please do your own checks.

Is roadside assistance included?
I think that is included in the standard three year plan. But can be removed which I did as I have an alternative which covers me in any vehicle.

I noticed you have only seven MOT's. Mine has eight. My monthly is £36.36, a few pence more.

So TOL has just confirmed to me in writing that the 10 year service plan 'IS' available to GR86 owners (as previously shared by others on this thread).

Just ask TOL or your Toyota dealer to set this up.

A 3 year plan is also available.

Both can be paid for by monthly DD or a one off upfront payment. The cost works out the same.

Cheers. I'll be giving Toyota a call next week I think, the car is apparently already in Derby 😯

By simply asking TOL I now have a 10 year service plan option including "all applicable parts and labour and 7 MOTs ".....

All I need now is the car!! 🤦🤣

Are the plans transferable?

I have not asked but the wording says specifically that it covers the 'vehicle'. So I would think so yes, but would need to be confirmed.

Fyi All.

TOL has confirmed that Service Plans ARE transferable with vehicle ownership.

So if you buy a 10 year plan and sell the car 3 years in you can sell on with the service plan.

I took out a 3 year service plan on March 2nd collection day...actually 2 service plans!! I bought a year old Aygo a couple of weeks previously!!
The 10k mile 12 Month was never going to happen as Im going to end up around 15k a year as a daily.
Ive booked my first service now with my local dealer in few days time and should be around 9.5k miles when its booked for and I did say I have a service plan and should I pay up front for this service to bring payments made back in line with projected mileage and was advised I will just top up payment on the day and can discuss with service team about upping the mileage and monthly payments going forward.

3, 5 or 10 year service plans make me uneasy. I get the economics - inflation proofing and all that - and it’s tempting.

However, with many years in sales, these ‘deals’ smack of “great for the salesperson but cr%$ [poor] for the customer”.

Once the service plan commission has been paid what margin is left for the dealer who actually services the vehicle?

Do service plans make us low-priority customers or high-priority customers? There’s no obvious value-ad or benefit other than inflation proofing. Or am I wrong?

I suspect they make you a low-priority customer; a recipient of hygiene levels of performance and execution at best. There’s no incentive to go the extra mile or secure future loyalty.

Correct me if I’m mistaken but the plan is not only transferable but portable? So any dealer has to honour a service plan [which they may not have earned a commission on] and then claim back their costs and margin through Toyota Head office?

So my problem is there’s no incentive to surprise, delight or retain the customer through price, execution or delivery.

If this sounds cynical let me share the thoughts of a relative who operates a car dealership up t‘North:

- “customer screws me into the ground on purchase price and discount - why would I bother to help them out two or three years down the line?

- Customer who doesn’t screw me into the ground, returns for MOT, service, parts and accessories - needs help on Christmas Eve two years later…. I go out of my way to help them. Hell, I get in my car, meet them at the roadside and drive them to the party.”

Anecdotal and non-scientific but we all got to earn a living and the dealers make their margin from finance, GAP-Insurance, paint protection and alloy wheel Insurance.

May explain why dealer customer service is underwhelming and why they aren’t thrilled by a centralised direct/on-line sales process.

I’ll be working on building a relationship with my local dealer and following the pay-as-you-use route .

It’s why I’m considering going 40 miles to a dealer where I’ve know the service manager for 20 years when he was at my local dealership. I can call him and ask him to put his best guy on it rather than have the apprentice doing the oil change.

I had my first service today at my local dealer, received a full check list of what was done once complete, tyre pressures were low and they were inflated to 2.4!! Paid my top up which actually was in line for first service cost and not balanced out across the three years, discussed with Service Manager who spoke to his team about fitting a cat back affecting warranty and thats absolutely fine as long as headers and remap arent done which I wasn't going to do anyway.

A very positive experience indeed from everyone at dealer not like the shit show from TOL on first allocation!!!

If you take out a 10 year plan (and in my case I will ask for no roadside assistance, as it's 'free' though the back) I am assuming it can transfer as mentioned above, or if the new buyer at that time in say 5 years does wish to take on the burden?

The car I just bought had a pre-paid (3yr) plan and a single email to EMaC from the seller got it transferred over within a couple of days.
