GR86 GR86 durability/robustness/build quality (etc.)

I don't think people are missing the point, you can be lightweight without being borderline shoddy, plenty of ex MX5 and MR2 owners on here (myself included) that didn't have these issues previosly. No sound deadening is fine, likewise I don't expect an amazing stereo, or even a spare wheel.

However its also fair to say I don't expect the floor mats to be heavily worn after 1,200 miles, and plastics that scratch if you sneeze at them, and such fragile paint.

I'd happily swap the expensive swivelling headlights for a step up in paint and plastics quality.

Check out this thread regarding mats - https://www.gr-zoo.com/threads/better-quality-floor-mats.4681/

I'm very happy with the mats Autostyle made, and they're much more robust than the Toyota horrendous things!

Agree with this 100%!

My Centre Console armrest/cup holder doors no longer latch closed. First real issue.

Will be trying to get dealer to fix it but it will require removing all my carbon fibre bits, as they have to swap the whole cup holder unit. And to get that they need to remove the entire centre console from shift knob all the way through. Mood = Grumpy 😖

Ok nice. I was going to order some. At least I know they have the logo on their system.
I had some made for my Elise. Nice quality.
Do you have a pic?

Yes, in the thread I’ve linked above, on the second page.

If you find out please let us know - mine also creaks (or at least something in that area does), but only when the car is cold. Goes away once it warms up, but in the meantime it's quite loud and noticeable. Is it easy to disassemble the vent?
I've been battling with a rattly passenger vent, and I found that the trim clips might be the cause, but there's also a bit of play in the vent itself. Some thin tape around the clip holes seems to help.

The vent assembly is made up of 3 different sections that clip together with 3 clips on each, with one screw to hold one of the sections in place. I took it all apart (don't pull on the vent dial too much once you've removed it or it'll all just fall apart and it's a pain to put back together) and put a bit of felt tape around the clips, as well as some between the section where the screw is and the outer shell and one of the other clip sections (circled below). It's solid as a rock now, with no play at all. I put some extra tape around the inside of the outer shell to stop any rattling from where it touches the dash, too.

I hadn’t felt moved to join this discussion until cleaning the car today and finding that two of my wheels are no longer round. No other visible damage to tyre or wheel and I can’t remember hitting anything significant. 🤷‍♂️
Oooft! Possibly a minor pothole at speed? Must have been quite an edge to dink that wheel. Easily fixed though. I reckon less than £100. Edit: But, maybe it's time for a full 'refurb' in a colour of your choice? ;)

Looks like £140 for both down here but have been warned that they may then need a refurb. Sad as they are spotless. But yes, if they need a refurb then a colour change makes sense. I’m not a fan of black wheels. Any suggestions on colour, anyone?

Another example of Shadow Chrome on @Bonzo1930's car here.
I love that colour, just don't think it would work so well on my silver car. After my recent hols, I now have a third wheel needing a little refurb 🤦 The wife did wonder why there was a Sharpie in the suitcase 😁
