GR86 GR86 Duckbill spoiler install

Very curious 🧐 if this would be strong enough using the 3M adhesive that comes with it alone?
I have no experience of anything like this…guys in the video seem certain it is. Can you buy double-sided 3M tape?M
Modern industrial double sided tape is as strong as mechanical fasteners!

Seems like a lot of guys in the US decided to use this method. Everyone has said that it has been solid so far.

By the time we get our deliveries some in the US will have their cars for 9 months +. We will get a better idea of wear and tear etc. Squeeks or vibrations would irritate the hell out of me.

A lot of other manufacturers use 3M tape to secure spoilers such as BMW and Mercedes and the TRD accessories such as fins, wind deflectors, aero stabilisers and the spoiler all use 3M tape to secure it so it must be secure enough.

Have they given you an idea of delivery times at all? I think once my car starts moving towards the docks I'll probably put an order in as well
No, there is no mention of shipping bar that it’s coming via DHL Express.
My car order was after eleven so it will get to me before the vehicle I’m guessing.

Some more photos of a black spoiler (wrapped in this case) on electric blue.

Although this look thicker, as the duckbill as well as the original one have been wrapped. Rather than just added on a painted black duckbill.

Hmm looks cool but I think it's nicer in the original colour.

Not that we have that option........

FYI for anyone with a PS4 or PS5

Gran Turismo 7 has a pretty good paint feature that lets you paint the duckbill spoiler a different colour to the rest of the car.

Its pretty handy for testing out how say a black duckbill will look for the various colours. The graphics are pretty much spot on.

I’ve gone for a red GR86 but very tempted to order a black duckbill as it looks like a pretty good contrast.

I think a contrasting colour or carbon would look good, if you have some other bits to match.

Just having a random carbon spoiler 🤔 not sure personally.

It will be interesting to see how many go for colour coded and how many opt for black🤔 I’m guessing but some aftermarket carbon spoilers may work out similar price to the OEM part and most likely will just require 3M tape.

A black roof on a light coloured car is probably going to be a popular addition too 🤔

Hope the already sprayed come as a good colour match. I will wait for a few others to order first to wait their verdict :)
I'll let you know when mine arrives. Ordered from Fensport this morning. I've ordered it now so it should be here in good time before the car, I intend to have it ceramic coated as soon as it arrives and don't want to be waiting on a spoiler.

That was my thought process as well. Already thinking about how to install it in the car park before taking the car to the detailers :ROFLMAO:

I was going to ask my detailer if he can install with the 3M tape method for me prior to ceramic coating.

The thought of drilling out the back of my new car fills me with dread.
Not sure I'd trust 3M, particularly if I stuck it down on the wonk.

Cheers (y)

Take it you ordered it via “Consolidated Sea Freight - Slowest (usually every 3 - 4 months)” as its showing out of stock currently?

3M is fine, you dont need to drill holes at all. All my recent cars have had 3M stuck down spoilers and I've tracked them at speeds of 130 mph+ all fine.
Plus further, if you actually look at how the Toyota screws/holes are setup... the screws are actually 3M tape installed anyway... ie what you screw into is secured in place by 3M not into the spoiler... so like it or not, your spoiler is secured by 3M haha :)
